As far as I care, the Terry Don Phillips interview on the Clemson Rivals site is pretty much a confirmation that they're out of the ACC. When the phrase "look out for our best interests" pops up, as well as "ask the commissioner," it's pretty much a foregone conclusion.

That is an attractive conference for ND because it would geographically come the closest to being a "national" conference - with representation in all regions (and inside all major conference footprints) and allow ND to maintain its west coast presence with the USC game and east coast games with Navy (I would even suggest making this a 2-neutral site, 1 at ND series)...

Given that kind of hypothetical conference, we could look at divisions of:

Baylor
Texas
Texas Tech
TCU
FSU
Clemson
BYU

Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
Notre Dame
West Virginia

Set the schedule so that ND, UT, OU and FSU all play each other annually and you have an enormously attractive schedule for ND (well, fans anyway, the coach would probably have a heart attack!):

Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
West Virginia
FSU
Texas
(plus one rotating conference game)
USC
Navy
(plus one rotating non-conference game - East coast when playing AT USC, West coast when playing "AT" Navy)

(I know the "tiers" is not a prevalent meme here as much as the other site, but here it is anyway...lol):
Tier One games - USC, OU, UT, FSU
Tier Two games - OSU, WVU, KSU, (random)
Tier Three games - KU, ISU, Navy, (random)

IF the ACC loses FSU, and the BCS goes to "champions-only" format, then the rest of the dominoes may tumble and make this more "reality" than "fantasy"...

1. Big 12

3. ACC

so basically, if Notre Dame wants to keep their ND Network or NBC contract alive, they have to join Big 12, and have zero interest with SEC.

The original conference is gone. Anyone still pining for the Big 8 needs to stop. NU is gone forever. MU is gone forever. CU is gone forever. That's 3 of the original 8. I know DLew was just carrying on what he saw fatty doing with wanting to keep the bands all together and fearing change. You can do a lot worse than to emulate fatty. The Big8 was fantastic. The Big12 was fantastic. But, it's a new day.

Personally I'm glad Neb. is gone. Grew up near the KS/Neb border, lots of NU football "fans" (walmart t-shirt fans) man, they were super annoying, never had the desire to travel to lincoln either.

in a perfect world all the teams that left would come back. they aren't.

i do think we need to grab a couple of teams for stability though and if you can get the right teams then you do it. yeah it sucks that they aren't located in neighboring states but it is what it is and it doesn't mean anybody has to love it or that people who want it are saying it's perfect. it's survival and they are realists.
