Also I am probably less excited for this season than I've ever been. Pretty much all I care about is somehow squeezing 7 wins out of this year so Snyder can get to 200 and the entire coaching staff can gtfo.

Last year was the exception to that, but I think that given the circus at QB and the complete lack of talent at WR (two issues which I doubt will repeat this year), that can be overlooked given the other however many seasons he's been in charge where he's put together a capable offense.
If our defense is half as good as the ESPN folks think it is, then I think we'll be a pretty formidable team in a pretty weak year in the Big 12.

The offense was a lot better than the defense last year. Both were garbage. If you want to believe that our defense is as good as ESPN claims it will be, then I think you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

--Call the right plays

we give the coaches constant crap, justifiably so, and anyway, this is an internet sports msg board. it's what we do. but, really, they polished that turd of a team purdy good, all things considered. they also re-cruited it, so i'm torn. but hell, dlew, is right, we smoke and mirror'd our way from godawful to merely mediocre.

I'm not excited for K-State football but I am super excited for college football in general. It's really the only sport that if my team sucks has no effect on my interest in the sport itself.

After my visit to the college football hall of fame yesterday I am officially excited for college football. Yeah, we're going to put in an offense from the Ronnie years, jesus.
It will be the same offense as always, the one that makes it seem like we're always playing into a ridiculously stiff wind... bulldoze our QB's (we'll likely go through 3 or 4 of them this year) into our linemans backs, slow developing counter runs, run a slip screen thingy here and there to keep the linebackers honest, and shitty deep throws.
But it works well with a not shitty QB, so I will hold out hope it works this year.

Another year/off season of weights and experience for silmon and warmack. I think at the end of the season the coaches finally found a package that can fit those two well. Warmack really looked explosive with some screens and I could see him being used more in the option game. Silmon is just a work horse.

I agree as well. I am watching some of the last four or five years of games off and on in my spare time some evenings. I want to continue, as it gets me ready for trips over this fall. I think we will be better than most on here predict.

With the double A gap blitz I doubt the coverage has 4 man defenders and 1 zone defender. He probably is just reading the back staying in to block and then helping on other routes. Lined up too close to LOS to be in cover 1 positioning too.

pretty logical predictions by Ubbs but I think the cats split the WVU & BU roadies at best and drop one of the UT/TT/OSU home games for a 7-5 (5-4) 4th to 6th place finish in the league.
imo OU & TCU appear have a clear talent and experience advantage over the 2nd tier of OSU, KSU, UT, TT and WVU and BU is definitely the wildcard

Mine as well. I love that it usually coincides with labor day weekend and the start of CFB season. This year my company started allowing us to use our floating holiday on our birthday. I also work a 9/80 schedule with this being my week with a day off. 5 day weekend, all paid days off and I don't have to dent my PTO. :emawkid:

When I adopted her she was about 8-10 weeks old and that was in early Nov. No one knows the exact date she was born so I always celebrated it on september 11th so I could remember the date....but its possible she was born on the 2nd.

It's pretty much what I expected for the score (I had 27-13), but I honestly thought Ertz and Pringle would be better. The offense looks identical to last year and I really need someone to tell me that Stanford is the best defense we'll play all year because that was super depressing. On a positive note, the front seven on our defense look as good as 11-12.

It's pretty much what I expected for the score (I had 27-13), but I honestly thought Ertz and Pringle would be better. The offense looks identical to last year and I really need someone to tell me that Stanford is the best defense we'll play all year because that was super depressing. On a positive note, the front seven on our defense look as good as 11-12.
It's really hard to tell how good Stanford is on week 1. Their defense looked solid, but their offense looked worse than I expected them to. I think OU will probably end up being the only team better than Stanford that we play this year.

Call me a tuck, but there was a lot to be happy about on Friday night. Snyder's teams are notorious slow starters, so I am very excited to see our progression as a team by the WVU game. I'm also interested to see how good Pringle is when he isn't getting tackled by DBs during his routes.
It also has me pumped for future OOC games against power 5 opponents. The next four years supply teams we can beat and in weeks two or three. So if we are building a juggernaut we will have "quality wins" to lean on.

I always like 1 PM games. You get up reasonably early, get to Manhattan with the ability to tailgate for a couple of hours, and then there's time to get a nice dinner somewhere before heading home. Usually not too late.
It made me sound like an old person as I typed it, but it just makes for a well planned out and full day that doesn't really wreck the weekend.

My Fox Sports GO app says I can watch it on there, but I have my doubts.

How many of you guys think tailgating in the middle of a big asphalt parking lot is great? (don't misunderstand, I don't think a bunch of tents on a hill is great tailgating either).
Me, I'm jealous of the schools that have bar districts within easy walking distance of their stadium. If K-State would actually put a parkway type setting in the parking lot with green space that could be set up in a "Grove" like setting, they could probably double their money on those spaces as compared to regular parking.

I haven't ever really enjoyed tailgating. I would rather be sitting in a bar or restaurant watching other games and eating whatever food I choose at the moment, then heading to the stadium. I envy people who enjoy tailgating, because they seem to be having lots of fun. But it just doesn't do anything for me.
So Saturday I will be coming over with friends, eating something, and then either walking to the stadium or taking the shuttle. I always enjoy the time with my football friends, and we have a pretty good routine. KSU football games are one of my favorite fall activities.

Go west on Kimball until you're just west of Vanier then head south and enter in the NW corner. We're in the east lots and I always walk through the Vanier parking lot. I never leave more than 20 min before kickoff and I'm always in my seat with 5-10 min to go.

Agreed. I'm in section one, we park on the grassy lots north of Kimball, and it's much more convenient than to have to take a long ass walk around the SEZ to get to section 1.
Go west on Kimball until you're just west of Vanier then head south and enter in the NW corner. We're in the east lots and I always walk through the Vanier parking lot. I never leave more than 20 min before kickoff and I'm always in my seat with 5-10 min to go.
We used to sit in Section 18 last year so that's why we decided to switch over to section 1 this year now that it is connected. We did take that route that you mentioned this past Saturday to the game, and it worked like you said. After the game is over, we can get out easier by walking around the NEZ to the east side, instead of walking out to the west, cut up north to Kimball and walk east to Denison Ave.

Yup, LHOFHCBS will scheme Holgy's face off, and TT's absolute lack of a defense will allow us to start the league play 2-0 IMO.

Look, FAU isn't a very good football program, but they aren't terrible and are no where near the level of Rhode Island. (or Missouri State for that matter) A dominant performance against them doesn't mean we will win the Big 12, but its a positive sign for this team.

I have 0 coaching chops, but I assume you just punish kids every time they make a minor procedural mistake during practice. Kind of like shock therapy to make sure they're not just going through the motions at any point and are mentally present at all times.

False start or illegal alignment penalties are usually mental and are often addressed with conditioning reminders.
Holding penalties often come down to poor technique or footwork and can be addressed with drills.

Reminded me of elite teams in the 90s/early 00s. Those guys gave zero effs. We were usually one of the most penalized teams in country. Didn't matter because we were so much better than the guys on the other sideline.

the Defensive secondary players from 95 - 02 would have been on most Big 8/12 offensive units.......they out ran everything.......it really must have looked like they were all over the field from the opposing QB's perspective

Honestly, points per play is a dumb stat. It rewards defenses for giving up a few first downs then forcing a punt compared to defenses that force a 3 & out or a quick turnover. Points per possession is probably the best stat to evaluate a defense by.

Redemption spot for the defense. I'm sure they haven't forgotten what Baker did to us last season. OU hasn't taken great care of the ball. Don't know if we'll have enough offense to get it done but I think we'll be competitive. Another unconventional score (or two) would be :thumbs: Also, Snyds loves 11 am roadies

I'm actually much more nervous about a close game that we piss away at the end. Mayfield is like a poor man's Mahomes with a much better Oline and coach. I think our D will help keep us in it since he can definitely be turnover prone, but if we don't get Ertz running we're in trouble.

If we go back to 2009 as well, Brandon Banks took a kickoff to the house. So the last 3 times @OU we had special teams TD, defensive TD, defensive TD. We'll need at least one of those, preferable both of them, to pull this one out.

I'm excited, because the Cats are playing a meaningful football game. If we win (and if Tech beats WVU on Saturday), you could legitimately make the case that we are in the driver's seat for Big 12 championship.
I'm not sure we will win, but I think we can.
Possibility of winning + big-time consequences of winning = me excited.

This should be a really good football game.... LY's OU team was a playoff caliber squad; this one's not. Plus, they are coming off a three game gauntlet (tOSU, TCU & UT) that has had to have been both physically and emotionally taxing.
Not saying we'll win, but I really doubt we get rolled.

I'm excited. Its always fun to play Texas and I think we have a really good shot to win. I believe its possible for our offense to improve. I think our defense and special teams will play well at home. I'm not a ridiculous cynical pessimist either.
