Here's the deal: Our offense is generally at least decent. Last year was the exception to that, but I think that given the circus at QB and the complete lack of talent at WR (two issues which I doubt will repeat this year), that can be overlooked given the other however many seasons he's been in charge where he's put together a capable offense.

If our defense is half as good as the ESPN folks think it is, then I think we'll be a pretty formidable team in a pretty weak year in the Big 12.

yeah but, how do we know about the offense? i mean as i alluded to earlier we dont have a proven player outside of a couple of guys. also as i said earlier we were scoring 30+ with a walk on wr at qb so i have no idea what to think

The offense was a lot better than the defense last year. Both were garbage. If you want to believe that our defense is as good as ESPN claims it will be, then I think you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

Even if we have a decent amount of talent this year on offense, I have absolutely zero faith in our coaching staff that they will:
--Play the best players
--Call the right plays

I think a lot of the bitterness about the offense is stemming from beyond last year -- probably still some hard feelings about the Sams/Waters stuff. But the Waters era (and obviously the Klein era) offenses were really effective offenses. If Ertz (or whoever) is capable this year, I think we have some decent talent at WR, and I think Dimel could put together another top 40-50 offense.

Relooking at the numbers last year, it's pretty crazy we were able to scrape as many wins as we did. We were ranked 100+ in both offensive and defensive ypp.

In any event, if the defense is capable (which it's projected to be...at least talent-wise), I'm willing to give our offense the benefit of the doubt -- especially in a weaker big 12.

Not lying here, I had a dream that we beat Stanford a few nights ago, but forgot about it, because i've been having all kinds of crazy dreams of late. It was like a 13-10 win. USC like.

we give the coaches constant crap, justifiably so, and anyway, this is an internet sports msg board. it's what we do. but, really, they polished that turd of a team purdy good, all things considered. they also re-cruited it, so i'm torn. but hell, dlew, is right, we smoke and mirror'd our way from godawful to merely mediocre.

I just don't see how this team could be any worse this year. It seems ridiculous to even think so.

How many super slow walk-ons do we have on defense this year? I'm assuming a lot so we'll probably be pretty shitty again.

I'm not excited for K-State football but I am super excited for college football in general. It's really the only sport that if my team sucks has no effect on my interest in the sport itself.

After my visit to the college football hall of fame yesterday I am officially excited for college football. I checked in for kansas-state on the helmet wall, may have talked some farmageddon smack with a Iowa state fan who was in attendance as well. It was a great time. Can't wait for the fall! #gocats
