stepped on a scale at work three weeks ago and realized that i have gained almost twenty pounds in the last 2-3 years. immediately implemented a super hardcore diet routine. breakfast bar type thing in the morning. six inch subway submarine sandwich (no cheese or mayo) and sunchips for lunch. plenty of water throughout the day and a sensible dinner. no snacks after dinner and only light/lite beer except on special occasions. down 1.5 pounds already. i'll be sure to provide consistent updates to this breaking news story.

Good plan. Make sure you are getting enough calories though. If you don't your body will turn everything into fat.
-
Gained 30 lbs in 6 months after getting promoted a while back. Switched my diet, too.
Breakfast: half/cup oatmeal with low-fat vanilla yogurt, strawberries, bananas, blueberries and walnuts (not bad).
Lunch: Also subway. Either oven-roasted chicken or club. No cheese and only vinegar dressing.
-
Sunchips are essentially worthless. Why eat that garbage? Just get every vegetable subway has and put it on your sandwich rather than sunchips.
"sensible dinner" sounds so easy but in reality it's not.

That's bullshit and not true at all.

1) totally do this. Carrots, spinach, etc.
2) Yeah. I'm terrible at this.

The key to a sensible dinner is to plan ahead. If you can't remember to plan ahead, here is an acronym I use that may help:
Plan
Like
Ahead
Now
No
Excuses

I think he was misguided in what he heard. If your body starts dramatically dropping it's energy use due to severe caloric constriction, it will "hoard" fat. Meaning, if you were to go and eat a buffet and go crazy after days/weeks of essentially starving yourself, your body will want to make as much of the excess calories into fat because it won't know when it will get to eat again. That's one theory anyway.
-
Just eat at Hunan Springs in Colorado Springs. I lost 10 lbs in 4 days.

Good plan. Make sure you are getting enough calories though. If you don't your body will turn everything into fat.
Not sure if the body turns everything into fat but the calories thing is a factor though, you want to cut your calorie intake to less than your daily needs but not so much that your body thinks you are starving it and kills your metabolism. One pound is 3500 Calories so if you can cut that many out in a week you can lose about a pound a week in a reasonable manner.

Again, bullshit. Your metabolism won't be damaged and you won't starve unless you eat an insanely low amount of calories (we're talking Somalia, or holocaust victims here).
The 3500 caloric deficit per pound is pretty accurate though.

Actual scientific evidence that it is bad for you?
Anyways if you are that concerned about it Diet Rite doesn't have aspartame, it has another man made sweetener in it that is just as likely to cause cancer in lab rats or w/e.

yeah. amazing how studies conducted by people who have a financial stake in aspartame come up with results that say it is safe and those who don't, come up with results that say it is not. what a wacky world we live in.

Meh. Why would they conduct a study if they don't have a financial stake? Seems kinda foolish.

Closed since the Aspartame will likely melt my face off.
Weight fluctuates throughout the day, depending on when you've taken a crap and whatnot. I suggest going on a strict 1500 calorie diet. You don't even need to exercise if you eat that much. The weight will come off quick.

my sodium-lite diet has been a blessing in sheep's clothing sent from God to clams in a mysterious brown envelope with weird writing on the outside of it. if anyone wants to discuss offline, i'm available m-f 8-5 and work in the south overland park area. we can definitely hook up and discuss driving the sodium out of your life. just like i drove it out of mine.

have started drinking sparkling water/agua con gas. It tricks my mouth into thinking it's soda. Plus, it's really, really good if you sprinkle in a few teaspoons of sweet, sweet aspartame.

I lost about 45 pounds in about 7 months on weight watchers like 3 years ago. Went from 245 to about 200. Now am about 210 and have been for a year. . have gained about 10 back but I also started lifting weights which is where I think that came from.
Just figure you're daily minimum and make sure that you hit that. It will melt off. Count calories. It's a pain in the ass for the first month and a half but journal it all down. After a month you just "know" how much stuff is and you don't have to do it any more.

i have a buddy who is a major scientist/researcher in the research triangle working for an unnamed company. said buddy (who will go unnamed), told me that he has seen aspartame do things to people that they only thought happened in people's nightmares and that it could be known as the 'Death Sweetener' by the year 2011. that is exactly how he described it to me, no more, no less. take it for what it's worth but i can tell you this much and i believe it to be true- this stuff is dangerous and not to be toyed with. take it for what it's worth.

down another 2.0 pounds. 3.5 total. bmi is now 26.2. technically still "overweight". need to lose another eight pounds to get into "normal weight" range. then can just put 'er on cruise. :driving:

yeah. pretty embarassing. i was a little surprised when i did the calculations two months ago. oh well. with my incredibly smart diet plan of six inch sandwiches and sunchips for lunch and only light beer (except special occasions), i should be back to "normal" range in time for fball season. have thought about exercise to speed up the process but i'm not really sure that it's worth it.

need to try the low sodium. incredible that people underestimate the power of it.
-
Checking my logs, since april 28th i've lost 3 lbs. Haven't done enough walking from the far end of the parking lot apparently.

Interesting that you bring that up in this thread. Wanna know the real reason people are eating too much sodium? Because they're eating way too much rough ridin' food.
-
piss, what is it about sodium that has your hair raised?

Interesting that you bring that up in this thread. Wanna know the real reason people are eating too much sodium? Because they're eating way too much fracking food.
good point to some extent but the food we do eat is loaded with too much sodium even when eaten in smaller portions.
piss, what is it about sodium that has your hair raised?
i read something about how bad it is for you then i started doing more reading. i think it's pretty bad for you when you see all the things it can do and how much of it is in all of our food. also i'm a pretty healthy person and like to try to eliminate all the crap that doesn't do anything but hurt our bodies when you eat too much of it. i know everything in excess is bad but sodium is super easy to go over on since everything we eat is loaded with it. feel the same way about sugar - really bad for you.
-
also i think that most people don't know about it's effects on their diets.
* In 2006, 631,636 people died of heart disease. Heart disease caused 26% of deaths—more than one in every four—in the United States.1
* Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. Half of the deaths due to heart disease in 2006 were women.1
* Coronary heart disease is the most common type of heart disease. In 2005, 445,687 people died from coronary heart disease.2
* Every year about 785,000 Americans have a first heart attack. Another 470,000 who have already had one or more heart attacks have another attack.3
* In 2010, heart disease will cost the United States $316.4 billion.3 This total includes the cost of health care services, medications, and lost productivity.

I don't think sodium is responsible for any of that fwiw

people are different and bodies are different. some people would be just fine eating huge amounts of sodium and other people wouldn't. as a whole i would say that sodium, in large amounts, is not good for most people. two cents.
-
I had 3 fried tacos for dinner. They were fantastic.
-
Yeah, most things in excess is bad. Sodium, fat, weight, sun, alcohol, drugs, tons of stuff. Some people can handle more than others without it affecting them. I agree that sodium in large amounts isn't good all things being equal.
-

naw, not following my diet strictly enough. 4 lbs in 3 weeks isn't too bad thou. I'm already over that hump where you lose an insane amount of weight for the first month or so. Now it is a pound or two a week.
-
Yeah, most things in excess is bad. Sodium, fat, weight, sun, alcohol, drugs, tons of stuff. Some people can handle more than others without it affecting them. I agree that sodium in large amounts isn't good all things being equal.
the problem is that most americans don't get sun, alcohol, drugs or tons of other stuff in excess. they do w/ sodium. the average american consumes twice the usa rda for sodium daily. the avg american consumes three times the rda of sodium for most other countries. it's something that almost all americans do in excess and most don't know it.

Yeah, but what is the downside? Is the average age that Americans live drastically shorter than other countries where sodium is allegedly not consumed as much? I doubt it is. Maybe quality of life do to sodium intake? I don't know, I don't know much about it.

I mean, if you show me a country where 80% of the population smokes and compare it to a country where 8% of the population smokes I bet you see a clear difference. Also with countries with dissimilar obesity rates, or any number of other factors. I've just seen no data that shows me that sodium intake is really a factor.

I think there are several hundred thousand people over 75 years old dying of heart disease. Maybe if they just got cancer from the aspartame or smoked they would help us out on the whole heart disease issue.

anyone else find it interesting that the obesity epidemic started in the 70's along with the trend of low fat diets?
Cut the saturated and trans fats, but monounsaturated fats aren't terrible.
Eat lots of fish, egg whites, veggies and drink water. If you're serious, cut out alcohol and white bread completely. Only eat wheat bread. And sun chips are Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).
Thread is tl;dr so forgive me if reposting.

yeah, I lost about 40 pounds doing weight watchers 3 years ago. went from 240-200. Then I quit smoking and gained 10-15 back. my 34 waist pants that I had to buy are getting a little tight.

I've lost about 15 lbs in 2 months from just getting a little more exercise, now that it's nice outside. I also had food poisoning, but that only accounted for 8 lbs or so.

White bread is completely processed. When it is fully metabolized, there is literally no difference between white bread and straight sugar. It's all empty calories, while wheat bread provides important nutrients like fiber.

# Caffeine
You should, by this time, be well aware of the benefits of working out with caffeine. This is the primary stimulant in Jack3d. If you’re not into caffeine or have never worked out with it, you’ve been missing out! Beginners should start with just 1/2 or 1 scoop of Jack3d to get acclimated.
Caffeine increases focus, helps burn fat by heating your body up (it is “thermogenic”), and numerous studies have shown it as a performance enhancer. Our estimations are that there’s about 100mg of caffeine in each scoop of Jack3d.

I find the best way to lose weight to drink a lot of ice water. I bet you can lose about 2 pounds a week if you drink an extra liter of ice water a day. Also don't forget to start each day with a cup of black coffee no sugar. In fact I have been off processed sugar for about 6 months now and I have probably never felt better in my life.

If the only change you would make in your diet is drinking an extra liter of ice water a day, you would not lose 2 lbs. You wouldn't lose anything. Sorry to burst your bubble.

First off, ice water is a negative calorie food, so simply by ingesting extra ice water you would lose some weight, but the impact is increased by making you feel full and therefore eat less. By replacing a liter of food with water you save a tremendous amount of calories. Using artificial powders and chemicals to lose weight is a no-win situation. Chemicals got us where we are now, only clean natural products can cleanse you of those toxins.

Awesome, thanks. I've been doing my actual work-work in my sleep for the last few years and have seen no drop off in productivity. If I can squeeze my daily 4 hour beefcake sessions into my sleep as well I will have my entire life to just hang out and flex.

1. Water is 0 calories. It's not negative calories. By ingesting ice water, you may burn 2-5 calories burning it. Considering it takes approx a 3500 caloric deficit to burn a pound of fat, that is a lot of ice water you will need to drink.
2. By replacing food with water, you are creating a caloric deficit. It has nothing to do with the water itself. If I replaced a meal with nothing, i'd lose weight.
3. Who said anything about using artificial powders and chemicals to lose weight? What toxins? What the eff are you talking about?

the big reason that water is good is that the human body is not very smart and can often mistakes dehydration for hunger and then a person goes and eats. just stay hydrated and drink water throughout the day. as saul pointed out, the whole negative calorie thing is pretty silly.
i also drink room temp water instead of ice water because i like it better. someone tried to tell me a few days ago that they were burning more calories by drinking cold water because of the fact that the body would then have to warm the ice water up to match body temp. i stood up and did one jumping jack and told her that it was now equal.

What the shazbot! are you talking about?
the big reason that water is good is that the human body is not very smart and can often mistakes dehydration for hunger and then a person goes and eats. just stay hydrated and drink water throughout the day. the whole negative calorie thing is pretty silly. i also drink room temp water instead of ice water because i like it better. someone tried to tell me that they were burning more calories by drink cold water because of the fact that the body would then have to warm the ice water up to match body temp. i stood up and did one jumping jack and told her that it was now equal.
haha, the jumping jack would have put you ahead me thinks.

Water at body temperature is 0 Calories. Ice water is a negative calories because it takes net energy to consume. The water must be heated by your body and the energy to do that burns calories. Celery is also a negative Calorie food because of all of the fiber. I see you and others using "suppliements" to help get in shape. All of these are unnatural and toxic. Man was not designed to eat powders and chemicals. The only true way to achieve healthy weight-loss is through natural pure means. If you require assistance use teas and medicinal foods not something derived in a lab in a beaker.

It you are not trying to lose weight I would never recommend drinking cold water. Room temperature water is best for maintaining health. In fact you should NEVER drink water that has been chilled below 0 F or heated above 300 F.

Creatine is one of the few (if any) proven substances to assist in building muscle. Not losing weight..in fact, the exact opposite. Creatine is a naturally occurring substance so I don't see how this isn't natural or pure. By all means continue being a dumbass, though.
The water thing, we covered this. Same with celery. You could do 1 pushup and burn more calories than eating a pound of celery or a gallon of water would.

Sorry to ruffle your feathers man. I am just very sensitive to the constant barrage of chemical influences in our lives. Creatine is a naturally occurring substance, but you are not proposing to eat food rich in creatine, you want people to take an artificially extracted chowder which is vastly different. This lab created chowder is unnatural and is never found in nature. You can eat a hunk of iron, but I think you would be better off eating iron rich foods myself.

Saul is completely right on this matter. Basically the same thing as taking metamucil instead of eating a giant plate of celery. Nothing wrong with supplementing naturally occurring substances.

IIRC, ice water also raises your basal metabolic rate (the amount of calories your body burns simply by living)

Is it worthwhile to gain inspiration from this thread and pivot into healthy living, or should I accept my fate and stay the course? This is a legitimate chance to make a difference in someone else's life.

Becoming diabetic is probably the best way to lose weight. For instance i lost 30 lbs in a month before i went to the doctor to find out i was diabetic. I put 20lb back on over the past 4 years, but still. 30lbs in a month is some solid weight loss.

but losing weight and keeping it off requires completely changing your culture of living.

i've been stuck on the same place for about two weeks now. really need to lose another 4.5 pounds so i'm not "overweight".
-
I stopped eating fastfood (pizza and sandwiches do not count per my rules) in January. I started going to the gym at the end of January, stayed right about 200 through mid-April. Then I stopped going to the gym and almost immediately lost any muscle gained and dropped to 185 in about a month.
Huge thing for me was basically making/eating sandwiches for lunch when I used to go for fast food
-
I switched from 2% milk to 1% milk, and switched to whole wheat bread from white bread, along with my exercise. Also, giving up pizza has been insanely hard.

Refrain from eating for 2 days.

What is it about summer time that makes me eat absolute crap 24/7?
-
Dudes, it doesn't matter what you eat. Just make sure you are burning 500 more calories a day than you consume. Do this and you will lose a pound a week. It is easy as crap.

I used to eat Pizza almost daily, which meant I would have to burn > 5000 calories a day.
-

Yea, I gonna ahead and say it greatly matters what you eat in this scenario.
-
it's science. eat less pizza
230 pound hemmy burns around 2500 calories a day if he sits around all day and doesn't exert himself physically. That means that if he consumes 2000 calories or less a day then he will lose a pound a week. If he pumps iron for an hour or plays basketball for an hour then he burns an extra 500-600 calories that day and can eat an extra 500 or so calories and still be on track.
It doesn't matter what you eat. If he ate 2000 calories of pizza every day(and only pizza), he would lose the weight. He wouldn't be very healthy but the weight would drop.
BTW, 2000 calories of pizza is like 5-6 slices of a large pizza hut pepperoni a day.
-
I usually ate more pizza than that, like an entire large pizza.
Leads to lots of constipation.
-
What is it about summer time that makes me eat absolute crap 24/7?
I'm the opposite. I routinely shed 15 lbs or so every summer. Then it's like I'm getting ready to rough ridin' hibernate during the winter.
I always hate when people are like "quit drinking" and "quit eating foods that taste good". I mean, I'd rather be overweight.

It does matter what you eat, because, and I am almost certain on this, what you eat is what determines how many calories you intake.
That said, we're not really disagreeing

I have really over done it on red meat lately. Every one of my 5 daily meals involved a large portion of red meat for several weeks.

I'm with cire on this, too. I've grilled kebobs nearly three times a week since March. On the positive side, my wife makes me mix it up with some shish taouk. On the downside, she makes some garlic sauce on the side that can not be healthy.

with all on the red meat overage.
i've smoked 15lb briskets on each of the last 2 fridays. i need a break.

down seven pounds by basically just drinking light beer and eating better lunches. people who can't lose weight must just be absolutely Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).
the physiology of losing weight is simple, sure.
but losing weight and keeping it off requires completely changing your culture of living.
truer words have never been spoken. this is why things like Weight Watchers really work. they force the person to make a choice- you can eat whatever you want but if you do, then you have to counteract the eating with an hour on the treadmill, or 2 miles running, etc. people need to learn to change how they view food and really understand what their relationship with food is. culture in the US looks at food as a reward and that makes people want more of it and they want to indulge in it. couple that mentality with the fact that most american's have no idea what's in the processed food they eat everyday, and it turns into a lethal combination.
the really sad part is, as Fatty pointed out, most people feel like victims when it comes to weight loss but they fail to understand that they own their culture and can decide, if they want to, how they relate with the food options in their environment.

I ran 3 miles on Monday. I was .1 miles away from my goal of the 5k. Couldn't make it. I'm going to try again tonight. I can't do a fast mile, i'm running a 12 minute mile right now (more like a jog) but it's still exhausting for me. Once I can do the full 5k i'm going to start shaving time off of it. This is huge for me, I used to not even be able to run 2 minutes without nearly keeling over.
Once I can get down to a 10 minute mile i'll start working on the 10k.
And I think i'm going to start this: http://hundredpushups.com

Do you listen to music while you run or go without? Usually if I run without music I am terrible, my thoughts get to me and I tell myself Im tired and then don't finish. :frown:

Gotta go w/ music. You have to have something to distract you from the pain and exhaustion imo.

Hmm, might have to add that to my costume.

push ups and sit ups are an excellent way to get into shape. i'm not a huge fan of jogging so every couple months i'll take a break from my routine at the gym and start doing 3-4 days a week of pu/su's to get ripped back up.
-
Could only do 1.5 miles :( Running early in the week always kills my energy for the rest of the week. Gotta build up to it I s'pose.

start breaking it up. walk a little when u need to rest and then start running again when ur ready. would still be a morale victory.

I ran out of new 'casts in the middle of my workout today so I threw on goEMAW podcast #5. Wow, we were drunk.

Also, between sets, I hear a muffled voice saying "help..." Some dude was getting crushed on the incline bench behind me. I hustled over there to get the bar up and in the process saw he was wearing a ku shirt. So I guess I saved a ku guy's life which I figure gives me the ethical freedom to choke out another 6 or 7.

If none of your chokeouts die you prolly can go as high as 10-12 and come out even

Next time pretend like you didn't hear him. That is why I wear headphones at the gym. I can still hear everything but I can pretend I don't.

I had headphones in (listening to podcast #5). Still heard him and instinctively turned around. He was on the incline bench where your head is lower than your feet and it was positioned to where his head was towards my bench. So as soon as I turned around, his blue face was staring right at me.

God yes sometimes I don't even have my music on. Also a good way not to have to talk to somebody there you don't want to.

When doing workouts like this, you should try, if at all possible, for your heart rate to be under 160 beats per minute at all times. In order to work up to 5ks and 10ks your aerobic base needs to get bigger.
Could only do 1.5 miles :( Running early in the week always kills my energy for the rest of the week. Gotta build up to it I s'pose.
Definitely should build up to it. It takes about 20-25 minutes to actually start stretching your aerobic base, so at your pace probably do a couple miles 2 or 3 days in a row then go out at an even slower pace or walk/rest for a day. Then repeat, and maybe add in a harder day where you get in your full 5k or more.
I know it seems like a bitch, but I swear this is the best way to do it. So easy to see your improvement, which starts slow but speeds up later. Hope this helps, I'm just getting back into it and I'm doing this as well.

Who is all "stickin with it"?

Over the past 2 months, I've lost 15 lbs, but all of September, work has been kicking my butt. I hate working late, coming home tired and not wanting to do anything. So I'm still sticking to hiking on the weekends, but my daily routine has been getting ditched. Need to get back at it. My diet is still going strong. I eat on average 1400-1600 calories. Sometimes get as low as 1200 on some days.

you can eat too few calories and cause your body to freak out and start storing fat because it thinks it's not going to get the right amount.

1200-1400 is usually a safe minimum if you're not a twig, based on everything I've read.

Quit drinking for two weeks and did Saul's 1500-calorie thing. Am basically melting. Lost 10 lbs so far. When you do 30-40 minutes of daily cardio, it's amazing how much you can eat for a net 1500 when you're not alloting 600-800 for booze and whatnot.

Annual winter gorge fest only harmed me slightly, maybe a couple weeks away from going back to pre-gorge weight.

Sodium is fine. Anyone who tells you otherwise is full of crap. I guess it does make you retain a bit more water, but that isn't really a big deal imo.

so this week was kind of tough: son was sick, sat around a lot. Tonight think I'm going to hit the gym and do some serious cardio, knock out some podcasts or maybe turntable while I catch up on a couple weeks of the economist.
-
you're going to listen to do turntable, read the economist and work out at the same time? what kind of work out is this? the recliner bike thing?
-
I'm pretty cut right now. My lifestyle is really catering to my sculpture of a body. Sleep in (miss breakfast), eat lunch (eaten lots of Chinese, Mexican, & BK of late), workout after work, & binge drink my dinner at night. I look fantastic these days you guys!

Pro Tip for losing weight-
Get a dog and take it for walks/runs everyday, its a great motivator.
Say you get home from work on a tuesday night and all you want to do is pound some brews and watch some cat bball. Then you look over at your precious 6 month old pup and those beady little eyes just scream out at you "No walk today? :( Okay i guess, your the boss, I'll just go chew up some shoes in the corner"
-
hmm. never thought of that ben ji.

Also you're likely to live longer because you won't need a gun to protect this house now that you've got a dog that loves the crap out of you.

Pro Tip for losing weight-
Get a dog and take it for walks/runs everyday, its a great motivator.

i had been eating pretty shitty even on non-weekends so this week i started using the myfitnesspal app and i like it. helps you keep track of stuff and realize how much your calories add up during the day. would recommend for fat people.

yeah. that myfitness ap is pretty great. i used it for about two weeks. i'm now down about 12 pounds from when i started this thread and about four more pounds to go for ideal weight area. beer was killing me. drink less beer is the rule i guess.

I try to eat Paleo style which is heavy fat, moderate protein, and limited carbs and I can drop 5-6 pounds easily in a week with minimal exercise.
I know your thinking Atkins, but you can give yourself up to about 100 grams of carbs of a day and still lose weight.
It's all about keeping insulin low, and eating fat to get the body burning fat.
Sounds crazy huh.
I've read two good books on it and they've been an eye opener.
Why we get fat and what to do about it - Gary Taubes. (Real sciencey)
The Primal Blueprint - Mark Sisson.
I will also recommend watching Fathead on Netflix too.
Anybody else heard of this, or had success with Paleo?
-
I haven't eaten pizza in over 2 weeks
-
I basically eat whatever I want, whenever I want :bill:

As do I and it works well for me.

I'm on the seafood diet! Do you guys get it, I see food and eat it, pretty pak'd right now too. Cats, man!

So cheesecake and eggs for breakfast works? I've been eating that or cheesecake and spinach and blueberries for a month or so now and am still losing weight.
-
Just don't eat any amount larger than your fist guys.

Yea Mark Sisson has great stuff, but its really more of a lifestyle than a diet. Tim Ferris Four hour body might be more realistic for the average goemawer.

From what i can tell from fb Saul looks fantastic! Daris looks ok i guess.

paleo is for dumb asses. there is a reason cavemen aren't around anymore.

paleo is for dumb asses. there is a reason cavemen aren't around anymore.
More in likely because of predator mauling and lack of medication more than diet.
I'm sure a bunch of us are red meat eaters and have no problem with triglycerides (cholesterol is an over blown factor) or heart problems to speak of.
Just the other day a grain scientist on NPR said that its not biologically necessary to eat grains which in turn means heavy carbs.
I'd look into it or even try it yourself before throwing "dumbasses" around.
-
I like the idea of paleo, just not the fact that cross fitters think it's the only diet available and how they're all obsessed with it.
For the past two months I've only had carbs during one meal a day and lost 20 pounds. I've heavily conditioned 3 days a week so that helps the process. But carb limited diets are definitely the way to go.
-
the problem with not eating carbs is that they are delicious.

And cheap. It's not very fun. Most days I only have 2 total meals.

this doesn't sound like a good plan, jakesie.

carbs are fine, just don't eat a rough ridin' crap load of them. pretty much goes for any type of food ever.
-
I really like food, guys. Burgers, fries, chinese, Taco Bell, literally anything friend, the list goes on. Food is great
-
Bread is my favorite food

Crossfit and the paleo diet are pretty much connected in people's minds nation wide. It's on the crossfit website, for God's sake.

Do not eat anything made with ‘flour’.
No bread, no pasta, no cereal, no crackers, no cookies, no donuts or danishes. Period. This is your most important step.
Flour is ground-up seeds. What eats seeds? Birds and rodents. If it’s poisonous to humans until we grind it into chowder and cook it, and it causes mineral deficiencies and birth defects unless we add vitamins, it’s not food. (Read more about lectins, phytic acid, and the role of grains in autoimmunity and heart disease.)

Crossfit needs to disappear. I'm not sure who is/was worse for the strength and fitness community, Greg Glassman or Joe Weider. Woof.

was going to quote this as well. Someone should tell all those people eating seeds at the baseball park.
-
I should probably read this tread and lose some weight.
-
If anyone says the words crossfit to me I do this :jerk: and walk away
-
do you guys even lift bros?
and crossfit is just like any other exercise program. I love it and I love a lot of the people that do it. I don't agree with everything connected with it or the cult like blindly follow everything crossfit says type of people. And a lot of the exercises and movements should not be done at the high rates and weight for time. If you have a good person to lead the gym who knows what they are doing it is great.
if you are competitive at all you will really love it. I love being able to workout with my brothers 3-5 times a week and talk crap when I kick their ass
-

That's like, the epitome of crossfit.
-
You can say doing anything for time is crossfit. its dumb. I just had sex for time.. boom crossfit.
but there are certain movements I believe shouldn't be done example deadlifts, just stupid and I'd say 90% of the injuries come from that and people not having good form(also the good coach and smaller class size helps with this issue)
-
crossfit.

Moderation is the key. Maybe I need to do that with booze. :drink:

From New Years to spring break, the only thing I changed about diet/exercise (or lack of) was cutting out diet sodas. Lost like 15 pounds. Then on spring break I got addicted again :(

yeah, when you cut out the calories of a diet coke it melts away.

Coke as a mix for rum and/or whiskey is killing me.
I went well over a year without having hardly any pop at all. This winter got me, I only drink it as a mix, but I did that every other night or so.
Now that the weather is changing, soon my issue will be Margaritas and other delicious spring/summer type drinks.
-
you ought to try making a margarita with fresh juice and agave nectar. The mixes are loaded with sugar.
-
Graduated college and dropped 20 lbs in 3 months. Turns out drinking 40 beers and eating 2 pizzas every weekend isn't a proper diet :dunno:

yeah why did no one tell me that during school
-

exactly.
Did so last year and they are alright.
-
Using diet sodas as a mixer gets you drunk faster and cuts calories. Win/win.
-
They also taste horrible.
-
Oh I stopped drinking soda for the most part as well. I've had a few whiskey/cokes here and there but I used to drink 2 sodas a day at work.
And started taking daily vitamins. My prostate is going to kick all of your prostates ass in like 20 years. :comeatme:
-
I don't want you or your prostate anywhere near my ass, KSC
-
obviously drinking your calories is awful, that said though a diet pop is probably worse for you than a regular pop. long term and short term.
-
I've heavily conditioned 3 days a week so that helps the process.
Your hair is probably fabulous.
-

false, diet tastes better.

My father is a doctor, and has actually said that people who take vitamins actually die earlier on average fwiw. (pretty sure this was a study of women though)

Did you follow it up with three slices of your cheesecake too? :lick:

carbs are fine, just don't eat a rough ridin' crap load of them. pretty much goes for any type of food ever.
Yeah Paleo guidelines are no more than 150g a day.
When you go above that without a good amount of exercise your insulin level raises and starts to suppress fat on the body.
-
I'm really trying to not binge-eat more days than I do binge eat.
-

So in your opinion what's wrong with Paleo.
-
eat one roll instead of 3.
