The Royals have had internal discussions about adding Joba Chamberlain on a one-year deal, and as Olney points out, Kansas City pitching coach Dave Eiland was Chamberlain's pitching coach with the Yankees earlier in his career.
The Royals would also like to sign Josh Johnson to a one-year deal in an attempt to recreate the magic of last year's Santana acquisition.

I think people are purposefully misunderstanding what I wanted/expected out of Uribe.  He is going to be cheap and has a good chance to be at least as productive as the vortex of suck at 2b and 3b last year.  I don't think he should be the everyday 2b, that would be a mistake.  I do think he could fake it out there for 20 games or so considering that Johnson and Getz got most of the ABs there last year.

Uribe was also injured in 2 out of the last 3 seasons.  Didn't it seem weird that he only had 900 PA's?  His first healthy year in 3 years he played pretty well, that is why people are looking for him as a buy low option.

I don't think Bonifacio at 2b and Moose at 3b all year is going to cut it.  Knowing that and the Royals propensity for this type of deal, Uribe was thrown out there as a realistic, interesting option that the Royals could pursue to bring another guy in.

Would be interested to hear other options or what people's perceptions are of next years team and expectations.  Are people suggesting standing pat?  If not, what alternatives are being proposed?

So platoon with Bonifacio? I'd be down. If there were a non-roided cheap Miguel Tejada type that would be ideal really.

I think the new school stat junkies are really struggling with the team the royals are trying to build.  FYI they're going for late 70's royals, not late 90's steroid blasted Oakland a's.  Slow old dudes that walk 20 additional times per season and hit 340' homers in comisky park in between balco cocktails are not gonna cut it.

If we go into 2014 with Emilio Bonifacio as our everyday second baseman thats a sign that we will never play to win.  Jesus Christ. Upgrade at 2b and RF NOW or we will always be playing for 3rd place. Sad thing is, I will still go to 20 games knowing that we'll never win.

It's simple: pick up Hughes cheap(er) + add Beltran.

Sucks the Tigers got out of that contract

If you're cool, you've heard of up and coming hipster alternative hip hop artist Lorde from New Zealand. Her new song "Royals" (which you'll be hearing on the radio a lot in the next few months most likely) not only shares the name with the team, but was inspired by a picture of a former player of some sort:

Quote
“I had this image from the National Geographic of this dude just signing baseballs,” Lorde told us when we sat down with her recently. “He was a baseball player and his shirt said, ‘Royals.’” Lorde was so taken by the image and the word that she penned the song around that idea. ”It was just that word. It’s really cool.”

Coincidence?

I think not.

Don't do this to me. RT @royalsauthority I'm betting on a Dayton Moore extension.

What will you guys do if it's Beltran?
