we can pretty much write next year off as well.. duffy and paulino will both be out until the all star break.

that window just got a whole lot smaller.

Come on guys, we don't need him.  Our pitching staff is rock solid, and hopefully this will open up a spot for Mitch Maier in the rotation

Buster Ohleny said we only need our starters to go 5 innings because our bullpen is so good.  Or something like that.

So, there's that.

Also, Perez was called back up to the majors.  I think if we can average +6 runs per game, we should be fine.

A bullpen that pitches 400+ innings is not going to be very good for the last 150 innings.

yeah, aren't we on some record pace for bullpen usage?

Would be really nice for our offense to wake up anytime now.

yep, according to mellinger and rany:

So far, so good. But here’s the thing: as Sam Mellinger pointed out a few days ago, the bullpen isn’t only effective – it’s also prolific. The Royals are on pace to get more innings from relief pitchers than any other team in baseball history.

That really is astounding. I mean any time you hear "...in baseball history" it's pretty amazing given the amount of time and games played in baseball history. Plus for an AL team it's even more amazing.

i went and checked the mellinger article. previous record is 601 1/3rd. at the time of the article (6/9) royals were on pace for 631. blowing right by it.

You guys are all forgetting that we have 3 EASY wins coming up against our little brother, the STL Cardinals. We'll be fine. Perez is back and I'm pretty sure that Pujols guy is having a like, really bad year for the Cardinals. I'd be willing to bet anything he won't hit a HR this series against the Royals.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

in the midst of the paulino news, this is probably the bigger issue. there has been no shortage of talk that the royals have talent and no idea how to assemble it.

There were plenty of posters in this thread arguing jeff francoeur was a pretty darn good Right Fielder.  I think the Royals may just have a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) problem up and down.

it wasn't me. never wanted him. never wanted to keep him. i wanted to keep melky. frenchy was passable last year, but this year he's a solidly below average right fielder. his good guy/clubhouse leader rep seems to hold sway with just about everybody though. he's the 2nd highest paid player on the team, batting 5th everyday(ahead of moose), blocking a top 5 in all of baseball prospect and leading the club in all star votes all while completely sucking a$$. man i love being a royals fan.

I'm hoping that Sal will take over as the Royals "energy" guy even though he doesn't have the experience.  It's really hard to sit a fan favorite, but they need to move him somehow.  He has a good arm and a good attitude, but that's about it.  He's far too undisciplined at the plate right now, and the way he swings at pitches doesn't seem to be paying off in power numbers.

I had a nice long post written out about why the Royals bullpen pitching so many innings wasn't really all that bad... then this happened. Mazzaro, Hochaver, etc... the Royals should just rename every starting pitcher left on their roster Kyle Davies.

They should just hand this game over to Stonestreet, rudd, riggle, and hamm.
