guys, I've been to 28/30 MLB ballparks, the K is in my lowest 5. it sucks, it's awful. even after the reno, it's so sterile and concrete-y it makes me puke. baseball stadiums should be brick and a little asymmetrical, look at fenway, or camden yards. even the newer stadiums like busch have character. baseball is much more fun when it's played downtown. Even if the team is shitty (baltimore for the last 10 years) there's always a buzz downtown before a game, that excitement and smell of burnt shitty popcorn that means it's time for a rough ridin' baseball game. Or in KC it means a 45 min drive to the middle of a field, stand on a blacktop parking lot to chug a few natty lite's, then walk for 1/2 mile to get to the gate.

I was seriously disappointed when they decided to pump millions back into the K instead of realizing their massive mistake of building two stadiums in BFE. IMHO they should have torn both down and restarted. BUT, we live in the midwest where people LOSE THEIR rough ridin' MINDS if there's not 5 parking spaces for each person in attendance. GMAFB. when there's a full crowds at the K it takes way longer to get out of that cluster eff of a parking lot than any downtown stadium I've ever been to.

It's insanely embarrassing to take out of town friends to the K. they'd want to get a hat or tshirt, so we have to go to rallyhouse or some crap before we leave, they always ask "why can't we just get one from a vendor outside the stadium?" welp, because there are none. because the closest establishment is a rough ridin' denny's across the highway.

Going to the K has no atmosphere, nothing screams Major League Baseball. it's boring, it's ugly, it's old (not the good kind). BUT IT HAS FOUNTAINS!!!  :excited:

/rant

These are all valid thoughts, but the atmosphere once you're in the stadium is great, and I do like the tailgating aspect. I was at Coors last week and not one person was tailgating.

There are few things in Major League Baseball stadiums as iconic as the Crown.

Nothing was getting done moving downtown without glass on board. It is what it is. Got to make the best of it right now. I yearn for a downtown Park.

uhhhh you serious? anyone outside of KC would have no idea what you're talking about if you asked them where "the crown" was located.

Liam is a short form of the Irish name "Uilliam", itself a derivative of the Frankish, "Willahelm". The original name was a merging of the Old German elements, vila[2] ("will" or "resolution") and helma ("helmet"), and therefore, means "helmet of will" and "Guardian"

Helmet of Will                               Guardian

After attending a few games after the reno of the K (all horrific Royals losses BTW), I've done a 180 and now agree pouring money into that place was a major mistake.   Above average baseball stadium that sadly was way ahead of its time and built during a period like many other things in KC when it was believed that the city would grow differently.   They were 20 years to early with KCI area growth projections as well.

Guys, we all want a downtown stadium. Let's just talk baseball though while it matters. Lets have an in depth stadium discussion in January.

I'm tired of reading posts and articles about Ned being a villain or the thing that will hold this team back. He's pushed a lot of buttons correctly this season and deserves credit for it.

FTR, I agree with this, but I was annoyed by calling out the fans.

I had no problem with Ned's comments. Given the K's shitty location I think it's understandable that 30,000+ weren't there last night, but the fact that only 13,000 were there is frustrating.

It's also worth noting that 31,758 were there for the Yankees game on Monday, so the school/work night excuse is bogus. As a coach/player/organization it's a slap in the face from fans when they come out to watch the opposing team, and not the team that has been playing its ass off for the last month. There's no reason for less than 20,000 fans being there for the rest of the season.
25,000 of the 31k were Yankees fans though. We travel very well.

2 Things:

1. There were not 25k Yankees fans
2. None of them traveled more than 50 miles.

Agreed, that should be a completely different thread.

Until then we should be discussing fun Royal things and tonight's game.
