ok everybody go to google maps right now and turn on satellite and look at the area between 10th and 12th St, between Cherry and Charlotte.  :frown:

Via B+ source, the land would have been Main to Baltimore / 7th to 9th. Still...  and

I can't imagine they'd have a stadium with west in the batter's eye.

a baseball field's left field line is supposed to go straight north.

which is why i've always thought a ball park in the general southwest of downtown direction would be amazing for kansas city, because the outfield view would be the skyline.

Tues 5/27 vs Houston: 17,826
Wed 5/21 vs Chicago: 17,576
Tues 5/20 vs Chicago: 14,900
Mon 5/19 vs Chicago: 16,462
Thur 5/15 vs Baltimore: 12,455
Tues 5/13 vs Colorado: 15,914
Thur 5/1 vs Toronto: 11,207

Wed 4/30 vs Toronto: 11,715
Tues 4/29 vs Toronto: 10,705
Sun 4/20 vs Minnesota: 17,710
Wed 4/9 vs Tampa Bay: 13,612

is this one of those baseball unwritten rules that no one follows?

If you look at batter orientation in MLB fields, they pretty much range from due north through due east down to due south. Anything hinting at west is always avoided due to the sun issue.

Which is why Crossroads would have been a fantastic location.

Well maybe we SHOULD face west and just embrace the pitching/defense identity

Crossroads would have been great except you really need direct access to multiple highways, and it has to be immediate. unless Broadway all of a sudden became 12 lanes going north

The sun/direction thing makes sense; main point is a stadium would fit.

However, in the spirit of #BeRoyalKC and #1Royal, lets stop our petty arguments about Ned or Denny or ballpark locations and continue to celebrate our man Alex!

I mean, its just so fun to watch over and over and over guys!

Yeah, the 7th and Baltimore location would have been good, too, if you faced the batter more southerly.

i would go to so many effing games after work and then take the streetcar to my mansion apartment  :frown:

You and thousands of others that work downtown, midtown, Plaza, and Crown Center areas.  Royals could be very average and their attendance would be great.  Not many things would be better than watching baseball and drinking brewskies after work in the new downtown K.   :th_twocents:

So many spaces downtown still even after billions in investment. I really like that location in the east loop. My other fav was Washington Square Park in crown center or the north loop where a ton of surface parking is now.

Water under the bridge for a few more years. By 2017 we should start considering leaving the K though.

No. No. No. Very isolated physically from downtown. Let the west bottoms go.

this is what i have always envisioned. downtown skyline backdrop, would avoid the cluster f of having it right in the middle of downtown, more available parking, would expand the scope of downtown as a whole.

There doesn't need to be parking around it.  Most downtown stadiums use local garages and have valet for the big spenders that take it to an off site garage.

But don't kid yourselves. Downtown stadium is only an attendance bump for a few years. The team's success matters much much much more.

Yes Yes and Yes.

You also have areas for parking garages.  The backdrop could be river/downtown.  At one point in history there was a tram or railcar that went from downtown to West Bottoms.  I think this would be a great intensive to fire that puppy up again.  Then all of a sudden we have a small metro system from City Market to West Bottoms and from City Market to Plaza.

i don't think the east loop locaysh is a cluster eff.

i'm going to humblebrag here for a second. my family is pretty close friends with a guy (EMAW btw) who used to work at populous (now has his own firm). he was the lead architect for PNC Park, Minutemaid, etc. He has always been behind a downtown park for KC, and stated that downtown is already built for massive entrance/exodus cycles every day, so the infrastructure really does not need much if you placed the park properly.
