Those were 4 tragic minutes by Mackie in the first quarter.

For consideration... a review of two Big 12 coaching careers:

oscar Weber
10 years (all at K-State)
Overall: 184-147 (.556)
Big 12: 82-98 (.456)
2 Big 12 titles
4 top 5 Big 12 finishes
5 NCAA appearances, 1 Elite Eight
4 losing seasons overall
6 losing seasons Big 12 record

Jeff Mittie
10 years (2 at TCU, 8 at K-State)
Overall: 172-145 (.542)
Big 12: 76-106 (.417)
0 Big 12 titles
3 top 5 Big 12 finishes
4 NCAA appearances, never advanced past second round
3 NIT appearances, one third round appearance
2 losing seasons overall
6 losing seasons Big 12 record

I'm not going to cape up for Mittie but I don't think women's coaches should be measured the same way men's coaches are. I think the expectations should be different. For example, I think Deb would still be here if she didn't embarrass the athletic department, more than once.

oscar got fired because his program didn't produce the revenues necessary to assist in running the athletic department.

It would be great if WBB was dropped straight out for another women's sport.

I don't care if WBB isn't has mature as MBB, at most D1 schools they've  had the same access to facilities as the men for decades.   Literally everything at K-State from a facilities perspective has been the same for WBB as it is  MBB for decades now.

They're never going to do anything.   Time to take that $4 or $5 million dollars a year wasted on WBB and try another sport(s).

I'm an idiot - I read that as being K-State specific.

Yes, definitely bad for the sport.

I admittedly didn't watch them much the last year, but when I did I was always surprised how big of a hitch in her giddy up she had. And she still dominated. Hopefully she can come back better than ever.

Terribly sad for her.  I'd be curious as to the difference between a WNBA deal vs the NIL money she seems to be pretty well at.  Peggy Pos says another year of improvement for the undergrads and we could be real nasty when Ayoka comes back.

She would have gotten more bring drafted but the difference is shockingly close. If she went into the draft this year, her contract for the current season would have been between $69,000 and $66,000 not guaranteed BTW. She almost certainly would have retained most of her current endorsements, but the WNBA salary is a joke. You'd think all the new found, last 8 months, women's sports advocates would change some of this, lol yeah right.

And, as Griner's situation has made clear - the majority of women's b-ball players make more overseas than they do in the WNBA (in many cases, significantly more). So, if you assume Yoki would have also played overseas, that probably tips the balance.

Yeah, finishing a college degree is a no brainer when the pay is that close.

Yeah, I'm sure it's a pretty decent financial hit overseas.  Of course, it still sucks plenty bad to have to put everything on hold for another year for an injury.  I'm just glad/hoping the NIL changes help soften that blow.
