would be pretty BA to have G. Smith & A. Smith competing for the starting job  :dunno:

It wouldn't be bad at all, but I think I know the Chiefs well enough to know that they think they just secured their QB of the future and shouldn't be wasting any draft picks on another one.

Adam Schefter reporting that they traded the 2nd rounder this year and a conditional mid-round pick in 2014

Chiefs will trade second-round pick this year - the top pick in second round - as well as another conditional mid-round pick in 2014.

meh...that sounds better than two seconds. The conditional mid round pick is fine.

Yeah.  The only reason I don't like it is that our chances of getting Arthur are like zero now   :frown:

What is the condition?  That he starts?  That he doesn't suck?  That ppl in SF survive the huge amts of laughing their asses off that they are doing right now?

It seems like just using the first pick to get Geno would have been the better deal.

We better still take either him or some other qb that we think is the best qb.  Alex is not the answer.

Either that or we better go buy another one on the market.

Seriously, though, what we gave for Smith seemed like what I remember hearing Philly wanted for their big QB they drafted last yr.  Would have rathered him for that price.

Taking Geno at #1 would be one of the worst picks in memory.

I would have much rather given up a 3rd and 6th this year.  Even 3rd and a 5th.  Round 2 pick 1 is a very good pick.  I am glad we have Smith, but now I think we have to either reach on 1st overall QB, hope that a solid gamble QB is available at pick 65, or trust in Smith to be the guy long term.

I think more than anything that this trade points towards Branden Albert leaving Kansas City OR getting moved to guard (which I think is much less likely) and the Chiefs taking Joekel with the 1st pick.

That is all assuming of course that they can't trade out of it.

Also, this means Cassel is gone.  So there's that

I was like WTF at first.  Now I'm like meh.

This tells me that Reid and Co. were not comfortable one bit with current QB's.  They thought A. Smith was best option out there and pulled the trigger.  We'll pick up Joekel as the first pick to thicken up our O-Line.  The rest of the Chiefs roster is pretty young and talented, and there are plenty of FA's out there to fill the gaps.

And now that we have a QB that is better than Cassel (note I said better and not great), we have a higher chance of pulling talented FA WR's.  In my opinion this means Cassel will be hitting the road, and that gives us cap room to hit up some of the talented FA WR's.

I'm sad we won't have a chance at Brown or any other really talented linebacker in the draft, but Defense does not need to be top priority for this team.  We can pick up a CB or LB in the 3rd and 4th rounds to fill the gaps of an above average defense.

Alex Smith is a fine QB and an ungrade from what we had. If he was coming out of the draft this season he would be a number one pick. Yeah, we gave up the 33rd pick in the draft but got 1st pick talent.

Draft someone to protect him and get Charles the ball. That's what its all about, baby.

I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

He was first round talent out of college.  He is mediocre talent in the NFL.  Also, a first round draft pick comes with unknown.  We know what Alex Smith is.  A guy who is mediocre who had his two best yrs under a fantastic coach with fantastic defense.

You can't point to Matt Cassell's one great year and tell me that he is a great QB.  No one buys it.

Geno could be a bust, but he could also be fantastic.  Same with Barkley.

I want to cry. Reid and Dorsey honestly sat back and said Alex Smith is the guy that is going to win us a playoff game for the first time in 24 years. Not only that but they gave up the 34th pick in the god damn draft. I dont even.

A Geno Smith could be equal to someone in the 3rd round.  We could still draft a QB in the 3rd...4th...etc.

We know what we are getting with Alex Smith...which is an upgrade from Cassell.  I'd hate to assume Chiefs think Smith is their permanent fix for the next X seasons.

If Smith could be almost but not quite as good as Trent Green then I am fully on board.  With Trent Green, we had one of the worst defenses in the NFL.  We currently have a top 10 defense.  And with Andy Reid's style of offense, we could most definitely pull in some talented WR's who could make Alex a much better QB.  Our current WR's outside of Bowe are horrible.

it's as simple as this. we either get Alex Smith or draft a QB first overall. there are no other options. this is a shitty draft to have the first pick if you want a QB and the new regime decided that it wasn't worth it to take a QB to get the first pick. this is not meltdown worthy, good grief.
