Quote from: Some dude from ESPN.com
I like the Kansas City Chiefs’ move to get Chase Daniel to be their backup quarterback.

With the Alex Smith trade official, the Chiefs are in much better shape at quarterback than they were a year ago. Smith and Daniel are big upgrades over Matt Cassel (who should be cut any time now) and Brady Quinn. Ricky Stanzi is currently still the No. 3 quarterback in Kansas City.

Daniel -- a former star at Missouri -- like Smith, is a good fit for Andy Reid’s West Coast offense. Daniel was sought after in free agency and I consider it a coup for the Chiefs to get him.

The Chiefs probably don’t need to address the quarterback position in the draft this year, at least not in the high rounds. I’m not saying the Smith-Daniel combination will solve the Chiefs’ quarterback issues for the next several years. But it is an upgrade at the most important position on the field.

:dunno:

Heard Daniel's $9M gives him a million for every NFL pass attempt he's thrown so far

If I were him, I'd be pretty happy with that ratio. Great gig.

Yeah, I'd take a third of that salary to be Tamba Hali's tackling dummy in practice and then hold a clipboard.

TE is not a premium position.

Chase will do just fine in Andy Reid's system.  Look what it did for subpar QBs like Kevin Kolb, AJ Feeley and Donovan McNabb.

Paying a large sum to a guy who has been in the league for a few yrs already but hasn't done anything yet, all based on something one guy things he might become, is very Chiefseo.

The Chiefs are so far under the cap, I don't concern myself with salaries.

And paying a large sum to a guy who hasn't been in the league for a few yrs already and didn't prove much in college, all based on something one guy thinks he might become, is very Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).

Sounds like something MCHammer would say if he ran a football team

If we are so under the Cap why don't we buy another WR and maybe a Guard or Center, or inside linebacker, or another corner.

Free Agency is as much about recruiting as it is being able to fork over the cash. Gotta be able to sell players on the Chiefs' turn-around, too.

Still need another playmaking receiver. Avery and Bowe? Woof. How has Baldwin not developed? He was such a beast in college.

You act as if the Chiefs have the same people making decisions as they had previously.

Well, yeah.  I'm not saying Avery is your #2 receiver.  But he can be a really good slot

No, he's right.

also, if Hammer had Clark's money behind him he would still be wearing gold pants and laying it down.

as i was saying...

Geno would suck.  He's gonna be Josh Freeman.  Good QB.  Not the kind of guy you build a franchise around.

That's not really true. It's mostly about the money.

If the Cardinals offered Welker more money, I bet you he'd still go to the Broncos

I think they would probably have to offer more than Denver, but not much more.

Few good players take one year deals, even if they are worth a lot.  So if you recklessly offer money, you have to do it on a multiple year offer.  This could hold you back a couple years down the line when trying to get someone you actually want.
