I think their vodka has distinct notes of milo / grain sorghum. Stick with Tito's or Smirnoff or whatever you normally mix with ginger ale and lime juice.

Is there people that exist that are vodka connoisseurs like there is whiskey? Since when did vodka have notes. Companies should just market their vodka like “ours doesn’t burn as much”

From the Boot Hill website regarding their current vodka:

Nose: Sweet and spicy that gives way to a dense, creamy smell.

Neat: Malty and soft right up front, with a blast of black pepper heat right in the middle. Quickly finishes off clean on the palate.

On the Rocks: The initial cream flavors deepens, with a soft, malty flavor spreading across the entire palate. Peppery notes dissipate, but linger on the end.

I guess the pepper would be fine in a bloody, but who the hell wants to have a vodka soda and be blasted with black pepper?
Do you know what neat means?

I do.  However, if you can taste it neat I would think it will still come though with soda water.  I tried some vodka from a distillery in Wichita that was made with wheat and I didn't care for it.  I am guessing this will be similar to that.

What did you think of their bourbon?

I can tell you that bourbon is pretty raw but putting it in a small cask for a month really helped it out. I suggest they age theirs for at least 2-3 more years in bigger casks

My flavor profile definitely prefers corn vodka over wheat vodka.

I enjoy Ketel One Botanicals Grapefruit with soda and a bit of lime.

Honestly I think the "peppery notes" that they're hinting at is similar to how a lot of distillery's will try too hard to make their products sound interesting and stand out compared to others. I wouldn't give it too much credence.

I did not think Wabash Reserve was very good. It is also an unusual mash bill as it contains 15% barley. I don't mind their regular bourbon on the other hand. I don't love wheated bourbons but I think it's not bad considering how young it is and will only improve with age.

Thanks for the input waks.  I thought it had an odd taste too, but didn't know why.

I will buy a bottle of the vodka and give it a shot.  If nothing else, it will make great bloody vodka for my wife's drinks.

"sweet and spicy" = not actually sweet, and spicy means it burns like eff
"malty and soft up front" = takes a second to feel the burn
"blast of black pepper heat" = ACTUALLY IT REALLY rough ridin' BURNS
"finishes clean on the palate" = the flavor of water doesn't have an aftertaste

I can tell the difference between McCormick and Tito's just by simply tasting it.

The more times a vodka is distilled, the better.  I think wheat vodka is the smoothest.  There’s a distillery about 10 miles from my house that makes a pretty good vodka. It’s corn but distilled 10 times. And the Watermelon vodka is dangerous.

From reading the farm thread, it seems they need to revamp and maybe Save The Wheat.  There is a drought out there you guys!

This is actually a really good idea. Maybe change the logo to Save The Wheat and have baby jay planting some wheat.
