Quote from: Pete on June 21, 2010, 03:52:13 PMBest Burger in town at a sit down restaurant is Annies, as Saul points out. Best fast food burger is currently the Pad Burger, but used to be the Buddy Burger.Fact: The Pad (elite North Topeka fast food burger joint) is owned by the same family that owned Buddy's (previously located on 10th street across from the hospitals), but after Buddy's was taken over by their son (a would-be heavy weight boxing contender, Dangerous Damon Reed), it folded. Buddy's served RC Cola! Now they are a fast food Mexican restaurant named "Andale!" - I haven't tried it yet.Pad is still around in N. Topeka. They had a location at 21st and Washburn for awhile but folded.

FACT: Felini's frozen pizza was owned by the same Topeka family that owned Champions BBQ, and who held the patent for the majority of pickled eggs in the Midwest, including Wetta pickled eggs (served in the Aggie Lounge of Aggieville fame).

They were using the names interchangeably throughout the 80's and 90's.Believe it's like the daughter or something that runs one or the other. Not sure.Aye. Daughter owns Speck's. FACT: Original Seabrook Tavern had an annual snapping turtle hunt/fry.What did they taste like? Chicken? Would they cook them up like chicken nuggets or something? Also, I should have mentioned that I am really jealous that I didn't have a chance to party with dudes who hunted and cooked snapping turtles at a bar. Not joking.

Boss Hawgs BBQ was great, before the dude died. I'd put old Boss Hawgs up against most places in KC and it would go a full 12-round decision match.

FACT: There is a biker bar* in North Topeka that has a motorcycle made of bones & hundereds of bras hanging from the walls.*Spacing the name, just north of 24, maybe off Kansas?. The only place in Topeka that I would take someone from out-of-town.
First? Montpelier? Cheyenne?
Don't know if we have any oldtimers on the board but my old man used to frequent a scuzzy little bar called Brewskies, right by Washburn. I used to go down there and drink pitchers of soda and play video games while he got drunk and played darts with his buddies. Pops had a drinkin' problem.

One of the worst locally owned places in town that draws a good crowd, since China Inn closed down.
