My favorite Topeka lake?  Sherwood Lake.

Isn't Sherwood private?

It is very nice, but didn't think it was available to the non-snob that doesn't own a house in their HOA.

Bavarian Inn was tremendous.  The Bavarian Special = 1 lb chili dog, smothered in nacho cheese, onions and jalapenos. Get fries instead of chips.  (crinkle cut fries)

The Shack isn't worth the drive to the lake IMO.  You can get better greasy burgers at the Pad or Horizons Hamburger Palace, or even Mentzers in N. Topeka.  People like the Shack because it is far back on the lot and is a dive.

Correct, they don't have a public dock area or anything like that.

White Lakes

FACT:  I read that and the jingle they used to play on WIBW came right back to me:  "Come to White Lakes Mall; come to White Lakes Mall; an Exciting Place to BE."

Also, spent a couple nice 4ths of July water-skiing on Lake Sherwood.  Definitely my best memories of Topeka (non-Showbiz Pizza Place category).

The Video Toaster, developed by Topeka company NewTek allowed the first use of dead celebrities to pitch products in commercials that I am aware of.

At one time there was a great strip club on the city's west side called Caberet USA.  I may or may not have picked up a stripper and put her over my shoulder and began carrying her out one fourth of July around 2pm after drinking approx 30 or so scotches.

Back in "the day" I was asst manager/bartender at Cabaret USA II in Emporia.  The "sister" club of Cabaret USA.  As an "Ass. Man." I drank for free and got to have all kinds of fun with nasty hussies up in Topeka.  I always ended up @ baby dolls though. It had more talent at that time.
