I read recently that DOGE employees didn't actually answer to Musk. Instead, they answered to Trump's appointed agency heads who were mostly interested in implementing MAGA culture war stuff. DOGE is ultimately nothing but a sham to justify big, beautiful tax cuts for the rich. And Musk was either a willing participant or got completely used.
