Guys I am not sure that limiting Ukraine's ability to defend itself has aided the peace process

Quote
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said although the nation has taken the ideas put forward by the US 'very seriously', the Kremlin still aren't satisfied with the current terms of the suggested armistice agreement.

He complained that the US aren't taking Vladimir Putin's 'main demand' into consideration - which is believed to be his desire to take control of Ukraine - and this is also one of the 'root causes of the conflict'.

Like, no crap.
Many good people on both sides.

I think it's very important that all of us stay fixated on Trump right now, because he is the POTUS, and for better or worse, his office is consequential. It cannot be denied at this point that this administration is lawless. They've straight up said so a bunch. Including today. History would suggest that now is not the time to whistle past the graveyard.

Totally unrelated, but I listened to the new Common Sense episode today--aptly titled "Good for the Goose." I'm glad Dan Carlin ain't skeeered.
Holy crap, Dan Carlin dropped another podcast???
Cliffs???

I can't imagine its easy to negotiate with a country to bring peace when that country has seen the United States consistently meddle in the affairs of countries on its border.

The amazing thing to me, is that we have actual congressional testimony and actual members of our Congress talking on the floors of both houses . . . about how the United States had meddled repeatedly in the affairs of Ukraine, how the United States was embedded in every level of government of Ukraine (to a point military leaders of our alleged allies were shocked when the curtain got opened up) and the legislator part of the equation openly bragged about regime change in Ukraine on the floors of Congress.

Via the Ukrainian proxy, the United States has been at war with Russia for years, and the recent NYT's article only hammered that home.

Dax, how on Earth are you as old as you are and somehow still stunned that the U.S. has been adversarial to Russia for decades?

I am not stunned at all . . . what is stunning is watching you, #blueanon-neocon, #neocongE sit there and act like Russia was just going to stand by and let it happen.

You won't answer this question, because you never answer any questions because you're a huge baby when it comes to this stuff. But I'll try again anyway.

Has the United States stood by and allowed adversaries to meddle in the affairs of neighboring countries and not reacted, up to and including putting the world on the brink of WWIII? A simple yes or no will suffice.

Yet somehow Russia has taken vast regions of Ukraine under the watchful eye of not 1, but 2 Democrat presidents.

Now #blueanon-neocon/#neocongE melts down because Don Trump is trying to end it, hopefully forever.

Yes. I'd say we were pretty passive in the formation of the original Soviet Union.

The original Soviet Union didn't involve any neighboring countries to the United States.

I accept your tapout

I have no idea what kind of false equivalence you're drawing here, so it's easier just to call you an idiot.

I am not aware of the U.S. ever occupying a neighboring country based on alleged interference from foreign adversaries.

Look at your purposely obtuse bullshit qualifier "occupied" . . . it doesn't matter if it was directly or via installed proxy, occupation is occupation. I mean

We invaded Grenada because there was a handful of Cuban troops there

We attempted to invade Cuba via CIA trained proxies. we blockaded Cuba and brought the world to the brink of WWIII, we attempted to assassinate Castro on multiple occasions

We overthrew Salvador Allende and installed the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in Chile

We overthrew Juan Torres and installed General Hugo Banzer in Bolivia

We overthrew Goulart in Brazil to "prevent Brazil from becoming another China or Cuba"

LBJ directly intervened with US troops in the civil war in the Dominican Republic which eventually lead to the election of Joaquin Ricardo - a butcher

We overthrew Jose Ibarra in Ecuador because we didn't believe he broke the Ecuadorian relationship with . . . Castro and Cuba, we then overthrew the guy who replaced him because he favored (you guessed it) Castro and Cuba, and installed their military generals into power

The United Fruit company - then the Guatemalan Civil War

Took out Noriega in Panama via invasion

Nicaragua and the Contras

etc. etc. etc. etc.

You are complete idiot

The entire premise of your question is to justify the Russian occupation of Ukraine. I'd say it's a pretty important qualifier.

I did not mention one word about occupation. Only a complete dumbass believes that (for example) a CIA trained army (back by the US military) overthrowing the government of a sovereign nation and then installing a pro American government is not a de facto occupation.

Edit: Or the US directly invading and installing a US backed puppet into power

"Premise" refers to your basis for asking the question, FYI

Your question is based on the premise that Russia invading Ukraine is the type of thing the U.S. would do if its adversaries were meddling nearby, which is a hell of a logical leap that even you aren't willing to say out loud.

The United States has not only invaded countries nearby because they didn't like what our alleged adversaries are doing, the US has invaded countries across the globe for the same reason.

In my list there were 2 direct invasions by the U.S. military to depose of the sitting government, and another direct intervention by the US military in a civil war, which ultimately led to the installation of a US puppet government.

You could have saved yourself this embarrassment, by simply answering - Yes - the the United States has always reacted when adversaries were meddling nearby - up to and including all out military invasion and removal of the sitting government by military force.

None of your examples even remotely resemble what Russia is doing. Even graded on the curve of Daxian whattabouts, this one is particularly bad.

I worry you may be wearing yourself out this news cycle.

You really can't be serious here.

The only reason Ukraine looks different is because it's first world on first world.

It's not the United States going in and invading and overthrowing the siting governments of 2nd world and 3rd world countries.

We occupied Iraq for eight years and still have troops there today . . . 22 years after the US led invasion to overthrow the government of Iraq (one example)

Again, you could have saved yourself this embarrassment by simply acknowledging that the United States has constantly engaged in operations up to and including military invasion to topple nearby governments when the US didn't like what adversaries were doing inside those countries.

Russia is literally having conscripted soldiers run towards the front lines strapped with ammo because they are running so low on armored vehicles.  Also using Donkeys.  The problem is Russia has always been able to just meat grind longer than the other side can last.

Dax over here like, well if the US gets to do it, it’s only fair we let Russia do it. And I’m like, no. I challenge the premise. I challenge the premise to the question. I think you sound more than a little unAmerican. In my house, at my table, we don’t afford conniving commies equal deference to our boys in blue. And you can take that to the bank!
