I will concede this, the CIA was right to be concerned about Ukrainan corruption (let's take a moment to  about the CIA being concerned about corruption). No soveriegn nation in the world identifies it as independent. The only two political bodies that consider it independent are the Russian occupied Georgian territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia

Europe considers it under Russian occupation.

Russian troops have long been involved in plans of secession "including during the Transnistria war" and were in 2023 involved in a coup attempt against the Moldovan government.

The region has been operating as a de facto independent entity since around 1990.  Its entire history was born from a desire to remain a part of the Soviet Union and/or Russia.

It has its own government, constitution, postal system, voter registration with all the trimmings.

Are you trying to imply there's been some sort of Russian invasion and that the majority of the indigenous population doesn't want to align with Russia?
