The Biden (interim) Dictator
« Reply #2052 on: June 08, 2021, 09:59:13 PM »
I think there are plenty of arrivals who don’t appreciate what it even means to seek “asylum.” And even if they appreciate it on a very high level they don’t understand what it means to be persecuted from effectively a state sponsored group based on status in a protected class. In reality most are simply seeking a better life for their family, which while admirable is not a basis for requesting legal status.

On the second, you could be right about processing affirmative asylum claims, but at least my understanding is that the courts don’t have much choice but to determine asylum claims for those detained at a port of entry. I could be wrong about that, though.

there's no "do you understand what it means to seek asylum?" test for the right to petition for asylum.  any foreign national has the right to present their petition and have it considered.

as for the second, check into title 42.
Yeah like Spracs said I’m not going to read all that you monster.

On the first, you’re missing my point. She’s addressing an extremely large population in her remarks. The vast, vast majority of people in that population have no case for asylum, and as a group there is a zero percent chance of success.

The remarks aren’t misleading. Suggesting the people of Central America have a reasonable chance of legally entering or staying in the US without having started any kind of process in advance would be extremely misleading.

the vast majority of them also have no plans to attempt to migrate to the united states.  telling that fraction of guatemalans not to come here accomplishes nothing other than to gratuitously insult them.

of individuals that actually do attempt to migrate to the united states from guatemala, the majority attempt to present a petition for asylum.

i wasn't aware that i had rooted for inflation, but i do think it's great that workers have some temporary pricing power and i hope it lasts long enough for them to inflate the crap out of consumers.

I mean I get why, I guess, you can make the claim that by vaccinating the world you are protecting Americans but 500 million of Pfizer, which is really 250 million people, is a drop in the bucket if we're talking worldwide. Good for Pfizer though  :kstategrad:

Joe likely just created another set of Big Pharma executive billionaires, congrats to them.

I don't think it's very hard to figure out what my point is Kim.   You know there's people who believe the narrative that Pfizer isn't making any money.

They can make all the money they want.

We've discussed this before.   On one side you have this ongoing meltdown about inoculations and variants coupled with this persistent fight against allowing the vaccine to be made more readily available to the production process on a global scale.

It's great to that Pfizer will eventually produce 500 million doses on the U.S. taxpayer dime to eventually be sent to countries outside of the United States.

We are talking about the recent purchase of 500 million to be sent to other countries.

Your constant inability to differentiate between details while expected is still amazing and hopefully purposeful.

producing extremely effective coronavirus vaccines in less than a year is probably the greatest achievement by any entity, govt or private, in my lifetime and hope everyone involved in the effort is very well compensated for the service they rendered humanity.
