A mileage tax that replaced the gas tax would be something like $0.015 per mile for a typical 4 door sedan, fwiw.

They don’t actually verify your mileage though

It'd be easy to verify in Texas because you have to get your car inspected every year and the mileage is recorded at that time.

Damn, what a pain in the ass.  No freedoms in tx

It is a giant pain in the ass. Limits the number of beaters on the road though.

Fantastic burden on the poor in a state where vehicles are absolutely necessary.

I also suspect it's a way to weed out undocumented immigrants, but please point me to the state where vehicles are not necessary?

You have to get one if you purchase a car more than 5 years old, but I've never heard of anything past that. Am I a scofflaw?

Smaller the state the least necessary it is for you to have a car, right? I'd imagine auto ownership percentage is higher in Texas and California as opposed to Florida, Ohio, and New York, right? Can we talk about the number of states that do an annual inspection?

I've only registered cars in a few states, so I honestly have no idea. But yes, we can have that conversation if you'd like to lead it.

Looks like 15 states require emissions and or safety inspections. When I lived in Texas I kept my car registered in Kansas, so I didn't deal with it. I understand wanting to control emissions and keeping not compliant vehicles off the road, I just wish there were a way to not penalize people who are forced to drive an old car. I couldn't get my license for a pretty long while after I got my first car because my vehicle didn't have a working horn, as if anyone in Kansas uses them anyway.

I do think there's irony in Texas, Louisiana, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania doing emissions testing while letting the oil and coal industries do whatever the hell they want to do.

Emission testing in Texas is only required in the most populous counties.  17 of the 254.

I have an old-ish Subaru that fails smog test every other year and I have to pay a not small amount of money to fix it and pass every time

How convenient.

Carriers in the Gulf and Med now.

Vlad and Assad now rocketing the crap out of the Syrian oil smuggling areas.

Just think, a brokered Assad step down was on the table and Barry Obama said no.

Before issuing the discussion challenge, Putin reacted to Biden’s comment earlier with a playground retort: “I know you are, but what am I.”

It's amazing to have watched ProgFascist nation transform from the entity demanding continual rapprochement with Russia/Soviet Union into a bunch Joe McCarthy/General LeMay types.

I think ProgFascists are internally jealous of the control that Putin has.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Joe “we need a consensus” Biden’s handlers have crafted 60 EO’s and told him to sign them?

Fascinating
