I think gas probably goes up another $0.75 or so before the end of the summer. The Biden economy is about to take off.

I don't know what I paid the last 10,000 times I filled up.  It is such a low ticket item unless you are a doordash guy or something

Will soon be simply plugging my car into my house to "fill up" for essentially free thanks to solar. :gocho:

we really need to address a "road use" tax relatively soon

We don't need to address any new taxes soon.

Kansas already has. They assess a $100 "road tax" in your yearly registration. $50 for hybrids.

someone with an ICE engine is paying .42 a gallon to pave roads

i get that we need to incentivize EV but that is not a sustainable model

Correct. I could see them in the future roll some fee into Evergys bill that goes to the state for roads if you have an EV. Trying to recoup it all in the registration process is not doable. Nobody is going to want to pay $2000 or something for registration. They are going to have to get it in smaller increments.

Ideally, the fuel tax would be completely repealed and you would pay based on vehicle weight and mileage when you get your new tags every year.

Why is that terrible versus being charged by the mile when you register your vehicle?

Higher cost, way less convenient.

A mileage tax that replaced the gas tax would be something like $0.015 per mile for a typical 4 door sedan, fwiw.

They don’t actually verify your mileage though

It'd be easy to verify in Texas because you have to get your car inspected every year and the mileage is recorded at that time.

i've noticed my own attention wandering from politics to stonks lately (this is probably pretty ominous for stonks).

Makes sense.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Stonks can stonk pretty long even when lots of people are paying attention.  Just because Bogleheads are out of favor, doesn't necessarily mean a crash is imminent.  I think we are in for more volatility and stock picking for awhile, but I don't think that it necessarily follows that stocks will be in bad shape.

The libertarians missed something because their way is supposed to be cheaper and more efficient than the government way.
