I’m pretty sure they’re already manufacturing the big 3 vaccines that have phase 3 trials underway (they’ve been underway for months).  So conceivably we could start rolling them out in early 2021. They can’t be shipped until they’ve received fda authorization.  Of course there’s a chance all 3 are found to be ineffective, that would really eff things up.  If any of them are extremely effective they’ll end phase 3 early and go for approval.

I think overall I’m just shocked at how slow the phase 3 enrollments have been given the overall impact this has had on the world and am voicing that frustration on this forum.

I think I read the problems with phase 3 enrollment was getting URM's to participate.

that has been the pause for a couple of them

Yes, and that is frustrating

Hey man, eff you.

(I know MiR knows this, but for my fellow honkeys)

I don't know all the details but the US has a really mumped up history with quite frankly evil experimental medicine on minorities in this country which I'm sure has a lasting effect on URM's being more reluctant to sign up for medical trials.

I haven't read it but my wife read "Medical Apartheid" and gave me some gory examples that are just sickening.

You don't think rusty telling you one of the reasons why black people are reluctant to test out these vaccines is on topic, the topic being why so few black people are volunteering to be lab rat. You're either, intoxicated, a moron, or trolling.

summarize that sheet my guy

Edited their declaration to hit what I think are the high points:

------------------------------------
As infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists we have grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies, and recommend an approach we call Focused Protection.

Coming from both the left and right, and around the world, we have devoted our careers to protecting people. Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health. The results (to name a few) include lower childhood vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular disease outcomes, fewer cancer screenings and deteriorating mental health – leading to greater excess mortality in years to come, with the working class and younger members of society carrying the heaviest burden. Keeping students out of school is a grave injustice.

Keeping these measures in place until a vaccine is available will cause irreparable damage, with the underprivileged disproportionately harmed.

-------------------------------------------
The most compassionate approach that balances the risks and benefits of reaching herd immunity, is to allow those who are at minimal risk of death to live their lives normally to build up immunity to the virus through natural infection, while better protecting those who are at highest risk. We call this Focused Protection.

-------------------------------------

Those who are not vulnerable should immediately be allowed to resume life as normal. Simple hygiene measures, such as hand washing and staying home when sick should be practiced by everyone to reduce the herd immunity threshold. Schools and universities should be open for in-person teaching. Extracurricular activities, such as sports, should be resumed. Young low-risk adults should work normally, rather than from home. Restaurants and other businesses should open. Arts, music, sport and other cultural activities should resume. People who are more at risk may participate if they wish, while society as a whole enjoys the protection conferred upon the vulnerable by those who have built up herd immunity.

Dr. Martin Kulldorff, professor of medicine at Harvard University, a biostatistician, and epidemiologist with expertise in detecting and monitoring of infectious disease outbreaks and vaccine safety evaluations.

Dr. Sunetra Gupta, professor at Oxford University, an epidemiologist with expertise in immunology, vaccine development, and mathematical modeling of infectious diseases.

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, professor at Stanford University Medical School, a physician, epidemiologist, health economist, and public health policy expert focusing on infectious diseases and vulnerable populations.

It's a bunch of people who think we should focus on mitigation efforts instead of blanket lockdowns, you know exactly what we're doing and have been doing since May.

Outside of draconian lockdowns, what is working, Phil?   Remember, the South Korean Government told everybody to stay at home during Korean Thanksgiving.   Train stations and airports in SK were empty.
