When a regime that incinerates living humans and welds people into their apartments struggles to slow down a virus.  It does not bode well IMO.

I  also lend no credence to imported salmon being the possible culprit.  If it is, the minimization of food borne spread and surface contact spread has to be completely re-examined.

The Observer newspaper of La Grande reported that the church held services in April and May even though Oregon COVID-19 restrictions limited gatherings. Also, The Observer reported the facility recently held a wedding and a graduation ceremony, each with more than 100 people.

Attempts by The Associated Press to reach representatives of the church were not successful Tuesday.

The health authority and county officials teamed up with the church over the weekend to hold a clinic where 356 people were tested for the virus — 66% tested positive for coronavirus, officials reported.

Yeah Illinois and Michigan really provide most of the variance for the Midwest, I'd think.

Yeah, Illinois has been on a sustained downward path.  Seems like we have some of the most restrictive laws in the country too, as far as mask requirements and reopening of places goes. Will be interesting to see where it goes as those get lifted.

For all the attaboys the northeast is getting, northeastern states are still not doing great (relatively) in terms of per capita new deaths.

7 day average for new deaths/1m:

1. Rhode Island: 8.6
2. New Jersey: 7.4
3. Mass.: 5.7
4. D.C.: 4.9
5. Illinois: 4.4
6. Connecticut: 4
7. Maryland: 3.6
8. MS: 3.4
9. Georgia: 3.3
10. Nebraska 3.2
11. New Hampshire: 3.0
12. New York: 2.9

Northeast has the top 3.  5 of the top 7.  7 of the top 12.

Assuming testing is more or less even among the states and demographics of those infected are even, we should see a growth in deaths in states like Arizona, Alabama and Arkansas (who are getting the most new cases per capita), and they'll will overtake the northeastern states on per capita deaths here over the next month or so.

But in terms of where people are dying the most from covid, it's still mainly in the northeast.

well yeah, case counts tell you how you're doing now, deaths tell you how you were doing like a month ago. 91-divoc added regions which is nice. It's really crazy how hard NY (and the surrounding region) got slammed. It'll probably be a couple of weeks before the South and West pass the NE in deaths per capita.

There was a Nate Silver tweet yesterday about how new cases are trending younger than the earlier waves, which is a potential reason we are seeing fewer deaths even with the rise or plateau in cases.  Makes sense to me.

I'd guess that's closely related to testing more than people who show up to a hospital. testing has gone way up since NY's spike

serious T&Ps dax.  stay safe

Serious question, I recall some very serious discussion about how the heat/sun of summer will whip covid's ass.  It has been pretty damn hot.  What is our feeling on that theory?

Deaths are plummeting so that's good.  Case levels appear to be rising in a number of southern states.

Theory is that down south, more people stay inside during the summer than they do the spring/later winter, which lends itself to spread.  Who knows.

As cases rise in certain areas, should we expect an increase in deaths in those areas to follow?

I haven't renewed my medical license in a few years but this is what I think.

From the early research and the pictures of the virus being a spikey ball, that allows it to attach/stick/whatever to your cells better.  The normal flu virus doesn't have the same spikey stuff to allow it to attach.  The reason the normal flu goes away is because your esophagus is more lubricated during the summer months because of the humidity.  During the winter it is a lot dryer so the normal flu can attach itself better, this is why there is so much more seasonality of the flu.

This coronavirus does most of it's infecting indoors, if it's hot as crap outside people go inside and more people get infected.  This is why hotter climates haven't seen a decline in cases because of the weather.  I may be totally off on this but it makes sense to me.

I know it gets Phil all mad, but you need to look at the Interstate corridor monitoring . . . the Interstate corridors that I've been talking about now for over a month.   The gulf and Florida beaches are open, the restaurants are open, the hotels are open . . . people who had vacations are coming and they're driving down the I-85, I-10 and I-65 corridor.
