A first step would be to be relay useful information to the public without partisan dipshittery.

I'd say that when you have governors learning critical information that has been widely publicly known for weeks, then that is an extreme failure of the federal government to establish a national response.

They could be pouring in a ton more resources to make testing more widely available.

They could be pursuing additional economic relief for small businesses and workers.

They could be doing a better job of securing PPE for medical workers everywhere instead of encouraging the states to get in these bidding wars.

It’s just a lot of things that have nothing to do with infringing states’ rights.

Yes. Also, what has been said about non-partisan relay of information

Great news, the rapid test has been approved. Abbott will deliver 50,000 a day starting next week.

Was hoping this would have made a bigger impact in testing, and maybe it has and it's not obvious to me.

As of a week ago, they had shipped 190k rapid tests.

Or the governors are just huge dumbasses.

Studies are starting to come out that confirm as many as 80% of those with COVID-19 are asymptomatic or very mild symptoms, and has probably been spreading in the US since November or earlier.  There is a very good chance many of you have had it.

since trump has described himself as a "wartime" president, i'll go ahead and complete the analogy for him. this is like if in WW2, the pres was like "the country was attacked, but i'm gonna leave it up to the states to respond" and then all the states had to form their own militaries and then they had to execute 50 different d-day landings with 50 different plans. but, even worse than that, all these state armies have to fight against each other as well in the sense that they have to outbid each other for guns, ammunition, uniforms and other equipment because the federal government won't give them any from the national stockpile. now does it sound like leaving it up to the states is a good idea?

Well the reports from like over a month ago said there was a 20% hospitalization rate, so saying 80% are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms is not really groundbreaking even if true.

The enzyme tests are more important to restarting the economy than the live COVID tests, imo.

That's 20% of those showing symptoms or tested positive, and those that aren't showing symptoms are generally not tested, so that would be 5% of total cases hospitalized.

It's this and I think everyone will remember:

The pervasiveness of the denial among many of Mr. Trump’s followers from early in the outbreak, and their sharp pivot to finding fault with an old foe once the crisis deepened, is a pattern that one expert in the spread of misinformation said resembled a textbook propaganda campaign.

The current death rate in the US is about 3.4% of known cases. If the 80% number is accurate, that would make the true death rate of infected Americans 0.6%.

There is also a good chance that none of them had it bc that doesn’t make any sense unless people have been unknowingly dying of corona for months which seems highly unlikely.

I don't think anyone is ever going to be able to identify a true death rate for this deal.  There are too many people who had it, didn't get tested, and were lucky enough to kick it on their own.  I think the only way accurate information could be compiled is if they are able to develop testing that confirms infection no matter how long it has been since a person had the virus and the entire population is tested (which is probably next to impossible).

At a 0.6% death rate, there very well could have been people dying from it without knowing it was from COVID-19, especially since they would have been very old or had underlying conditions. Why would they have been testing for COVID-19?  There were still 3000 people dying every week from the regular flu related pneumonia during this time.

The whole world is battling one disease but these woke Trumpers in here keeping it real, as USA racks up the highest death toll and can pin all those deaths on either Obama or a state governor.

Very on brand.
