My company just furloughed my position for the next 2-3 weeks. Awesome!

Does that mean they are forcing you to take PTO or not get paid?

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can find something quickly and it doesn’t have too much of an impact.

power plant workers aren't quarantined.

They aren't "quarantined" per se but they are isolated so effectively the same. That is pretty standard from all the clients I work with right now. Operators/maintenance staffs are deemed essential (obviously) and any non-operators are not allowed on most sites, and many if not all plants require you to be quarantined for 2 weeks before you are allowed onsite if you're an outsider needing to work there at some point in the future.

They say the plan is to bring us all back in 2-3 weeks, but who knows. I just had the call tonight and had to do some research afterwards. It totally makes sense, but is still scarier than crap. I’m going to go nuts not having anything to do.

That's not the same thing as being quarantined especially considering that he was implying it was leading to the power being out

Sorry to hear this my man.  Thank you lucky stars you aren't in hospitality right now though.  Most are being furloughed for months.

This is the data point I wait for each day.

The lack of testing is by far the biggest misstep in dealing with this virus.  No matter what you think of the virus in terms of it's real or a hoax or a big deal or not, there is zero reason to not have the capacity to test for it.  Testing has to be the most cost effective way to deal with the virus.

I could see it being that long. People don’t need to go to the Dentist right now. Sucks for all those people too. Life isn’t going to be the same for quite sometime now.

I have heard anecdotal reports directly from doctors in some places that they are not even bothering to test everyone if they present all the symptoms because they are so short on tests.  We will never know how many people got it.

I think we'll have a good idea based on the number of deaths and testing data from other countries.

Apparently in KC an inmate was transferred to the hospital citing c-19 concerns. Due to the circumstance, the guard was posted outside his room. The inmate slipped out of his cuffs, climbed up above the ceiling grid and managed to escape. Guessing this well complicate things for the prison population concerned with exposure to c19

You don't test if you think there are a few but not a crazy amount with the disease and you worry that getting positive test results will hurt your reelection campaign

Yeah I mean if they don't need to be hospitalized or have other issues they should assume they're positive and ride it out at home at this point

Yes it’s the right decision not to test mild cases but still messes with the numbers. We can assume both that more people have COVID-19 than those numbers indicate (bad, but duh) and that more people have been processed than the numbers indicate (good).
