Million Dollar Baby is on tv and I just wanted to take a moment to express my thought that is one of the worst movies of all time.
off-brand take for the blogs premier #1 women's sports connoisseur
is it just the ending that turns you off? or the who show? clint eastwood?
if it had just a normal rocky ending, where would it rate?
The entire premise was dogshit and that equally dogshit ending is what that steaming pile of dogshit deserved.
It first and foremost was an utterly unbelievable boxing movie, which is okay because a lot of boxing movies are bad. However, this didn't have anything redeeming to make up for the bad boxing and ridiculously improbable story. It wasn't entertaining and didn't try to be, it wasn't funny and didn't try to be. It tried to be an artsy boxing movie, and it failed, bigly. The way she got paralyzed was gratuitous, no way that could have happened, her getting hit by a falling piece of space junk was more probable. Then this woman, this supposedly driven athlete, with 2/3 of her life ahead of her, has no will to fight or live at all, then this dude just shuts off her ventilator then she instantly just falls asleep, it's preposterous.
This sack of crap beat Ray and Sideways for best picture in 2005, what a rough ridin' debacle.
Women's sports movies as a genre are pathetic, the only great one is A League of their Own. Bring it On and Love and Basketball are also good, if those two even count. Hopefully the 2020's is a good decade for women's sports movies.
