I was drinking heavily and not paying attention but Ad Astra seemed like they tried to fit a lot of different story lines into 120 minutes and it wasn't that great in the end.
I don't think they did that but it sucked regardless. I could barely detect 1 storyline.

Mad Max
Planet of the Apes
And then space stuff

Chicago - How did this movie beat out Gangs of New York, The Pianist and The Two Towers for Best Picture?

Uncut Gems - 6/7 it's been years since i've seen a movie that when it ended, i still thought there was like an hour left. idk how they kept up that amazing pace

Joker - 5/7 i don't really have anything to add that hasn't already been said

'71 - 7/7 small fictional story set in the midst of The Troubles that is just a pretty flawlessly made movie. some shocking scenes that were not overplayed

White Boy Rick - 5/7 this movie has been made a million times before, but the quirk with this one is the protag is like 15 years old (and still in prison irl!)

You come for the history and get disappointed, but then you stay for the torture and leave satisfied.

I'm also pleasantly surprised that in the 23 years since that movie came out I never really stumbled across any spoilers.  To me it was a brand new movie.

I'm with waks. The ideological project of Braveheart is to valorize both Wallace and the oscar as Scottish national heroes. This is done in the crudest possible way. The screenplay says repeatedly that thinking is more important than fighting, yet problems are always met with muscle-power in the movie, which wallows in violence and vengeance every chance it gets. In the absence of satisfying moral dilemmas, Braveheart is an action film with an unhappy ending rather than the tragedy it would like to be. It's sad that Paramount Pictures, which has many gay employees, has stooped to release such a flawed work of bigotry and forced them to stand behind it.
