I think people are just upset because UCF is acting like a big time program. Deciding not to celebrate their national championship is the small-timey thing to do.

No joke. If Bama went 13-0 this year and got snubbed from the playoff would you expect them to just roll over?

My issue is that they are acting as if get had no control over not being in the CFP and that's ridiculous. Their non con consisted of FIU, Georgia Tech, Maine, and Maryland; the best team in that group, by far, was 5-6 Georgia Tech, a game they didn't even play. If Houston didn't gag last year they would have been in the CFP. I don't think this was the best or most deserving G5 team the last 15 years or so anyway. They also were absolutely hurt by the fact that they were 0-11 just two years ago, sucks but it's really hard for people to take a G5 team seriously that has a roster with half of the players that has a winless season.

To me this UCF season was great, but I'm having a hard time distinguishing this from KU's Orange Bowl season.

It's pretty easy actually:  UCF had 0 losses and KU had more than 0 losses.  Happy to help you locate that sneaky distinction.

Fox should run a "Highlights of the UCF National Championship Season" at the same time as the CFP game.

College football really just needs to put a system in place that makes it impossible for anyone but their national champion to finish a season undefeated. It’s not that hard to do.

I’m firmly team MIR here. This is small-timely and very whiny. Auburn had a legitimate argument in 2004 and even they didn’t pretend they won a title
why compare auburn to ucf?  ucf knows it’s place in this world
But alas, it appears they don’t

ya seems pretty dumb of them to act this way in the totally non-dumb world of college football

thanks folks, let’s close this ticket- ucf is being an irrational college football team

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

I was thinking this as well.  All you need to do is start with the 8-team format.  All P5s have championship games so you can never have more than 1 undefeated there.  For G5 teams, in the off chance more than one goes undefeated, the lower ranked/seeded either get an at-large spot or you add a wildcard/play-in game.

Oh boy...

https://www.widerightnattylite.com/2018/1/4/16849880/iowa-state-announces-first-ever-10-win-football-season
That article is humiliating.  Every other school in the conference has at least 3 10 win seasons.

ISU getting butthurt about this year's split national championship is just the icing on the cake.

You would have to just give them an at-large spot. A play-in game that never occurs would be too hard to schedule every year.

If KU weren't so small time, they would have claimed the 2007 national championship. Alabama would have in their shoes.

Yeah, it's pretty easy.

1.  5 conference champions.
2.  Any undefeated G5 teams. (any undefeated P5 teams will have already gotten-in by virtue of conference championship).
3.  Remaining spots can be chosen by committee or BCS or polls or whatever.

What if there are multiple undefeated g5 teams?

All undefeated G5 champs would get in before any non-champion P5 team.

That would be a recipe for all G5 teams to compete for the softest possible non-con schedule.  Going undefeated in conference but missing the playoffs due to losing a non conference game against a P5 team would get the AD run.

Listen, man.  I'm not saying that should be how it's done.  I was responding to

I'm not sure there's a way to balance (1) OOCs; (2) any weight given to CCGs; and (3) not jobbing out G5 teams
