update: days 20 and 21 have kicked our ass. i am 99% sure we have a gassy/colicky baby. Starting to be inconsolable for 45 minutes after each feeding.
been pretty emotional today wondering if something is wrong. plus feeling resentment towards parents who seem to have a "happy" baby. not proud of it.
Thankfully my mother-in-law will be staying with us starting Sunday. I start working from home on Monday so this will be a big help.
FWIW - I think lots of new parents (including us) went through a similar phase of being convinced about colic. Tried simethicone and all that. Ultimately time helps more than anything, but for us the most effective thing for at least helping with spit up was just holding them on your chest/upright for a good 30-40 minutes after eating.  Great excuse for sitting on the couch and watching football.

Also, for our first especially we ended up determining he was actually just still hungry and wanting more. Growth spurts can look a lot like gas/colic when it comes to inexplicably crying just 30 minutes after a meal.

@catastrophe this post ended up being pretty spot on. Past 6 weeks now and going much smoother. Still some bad days here and there but much better at deciphering what the issue is. ie tired/gassy/hungry. Not as worried about colic at the moment.
Gotta say having the mother in law stay for 2 weeks was the best thing yet. So nice to have another person around.
Biggest thing now is getting him to sleep at night in his bassinet. Doesn't like sleeping on his back by himself. Can maybe get a 2 hr stretch outta him at night,  but nothing longer than 20 min after that. Just off and on grunts, kicks up his legs, sometimes farts and eventually wakes himself up. ms. ww goes back to work in 2 weeks and then nights become a higher % my duty. Hoping his digestive system keeps improving.

Also just found out our daycare provider may have COVID. May not be able to start that in 2 weeks like we thought.
Sometimes I think of the Book of Job and how God likes to really eff with people.

That’s great (the first part at least). Don’t have any great tips on sleeping other than you’re still a ways away from a reliable sleep schedule, although hopefully you can get a good 4-6 hour stretch every so often. Our friends have had some luck with getting the room as dark as possible and having some white noise on.

In response to saying no to a playdate with a kid that we really don't know and cleaning out old clothes from the dresser respectively.

Yesterday the 6 yo dropped a “I knew it, no one here loves me” on us.
I got a guy on the other line about some white walls

Are you an empty nester? If so, do you like being an empty nester?

The nest is indeed empty.  Sometimes it's nice, but other times I miss the chaos.  If that makes any sense.

I think that makes sense. I know you are supposed to enjoy every day with your kids and all but sometimes I do think there would be some great things about the empty nest life.

It is going to be weird AF to not have kids in the house. Lol it will never happen. Doesn’t seem like a real thing.

I thought the same thing, till it actually happened. It’s unbelievable, how much you miss them.

I picture myself not having much to do and constantly wondering what they are up to.

There is definitely some of that. My oldest (daughter) is graduating from college this year and looking to get into grad school. My youngest (son) is a sophomore in college. So, they’re still in my clutches, but not under my roof.

It’s different. Every parent wants their kids to be as successful as they possibly can. But it’s so hard to let them go.

My parent’s youngest were triplets. My sister went for rush a couple days before my brothers, but they went from 3 kids to 0 kids in 3 days.

A few days into school this year we skipped my daughter a grade. Mrs. Hamburg was bummed when she realized that meant 1 less year of the kid in the house.

Well get on the MIR family plan of having a kid every decade and you never have to worry about this.

Already dreaming of this. Lure the kids back every now and again with free food and cool vacations. That’s my plan anyway.

Since I made the post above being an "empty nester," I've been getting ads in my facebook feed for dorm furniture to help your kids get settled at college (along with about a gadjilion ads about getting underwear for your wife for valentines day). zuckerberg, you are an effing creep.

I feel bad for my parents because they won't get to be grand parents. They both would be awesome at it.

This photo of the first jr. pak'r was taken 10 years ago today. She's now a middle schooler who is taller than her mother.

This one

was 10 days later right before we left the house to catch the Valentine's Day Massacre, her first court storming.

Mom was 8 months pregnant so she decided against waddling down the stairs with us
