It would be excessive if that were the sentence, but it's ultimately up to the Judge to either sentence below or above whatever the US Attorney recommends. This move by the DOJ shouldn't affect the Judge's decisionmaking, but you never know, because judges are people. Could backfire.

For reference, most of the Nixon conspirators, who were convicted of arguably more serious crimes, served 18 or fewer months.

They usually at least factor the reco in. If it were futile the prosecutor wouldn't do it lest they get non stop trump level dunked on by being ignored.
