That NYT article feels like Pence making his move.
Guys the obvious answer is Trump. He wants out.

Trump and his alter egos are incapable of writing anything about him without throwing in some praise. VP Pence actually makes more sense than most if he thinks Trump is heading toward impeachment. There seems to be very little motivation for most other people to come out with anonymous allegations alleging the same type of stuff that has been reported for years and most recently detailed by an almost un-impeachable author.
But the stories have already been pretty thoroughly reported. Everyone is gonna say, “yep I was one of those good guys.” Writing an anonymous op ed doesn’t really do a whole lot. I haven’t seen anyone heralding this person as a hero.
Puerto Rico was such a non corrupt well run U.S. territory before Trump and that Hurricane. Impeccable building standards, state of the art power systems, now all wrecked because of Trump.
