http://www2.kusports.com/news/2010/apr/12/kus-gill-lead-pledge-against-drugs/Although he has had his hands full with football so far, Kansas University football coach Turner Gill has found plenty of ways to demonstrate how important community is to him.
KU officials announced recently that during halftime of the Jayhawks’ April 24 Spring Game, Gill plans to lead a group of youths and their parents in a pledge against the use of drugs.
In a letter sent to all of Lawrence’s elementary schools last week, Gill wrote: “I want you to know that we teach our players what you are learning in your health and science classes at school — drugs are not fun and they can harm you, your friends and your family. Together, we can all take the pledge and promise to live a drug-free lifestyle.”
The reading of the pledge, which can be obtained upon entering Memorial Stadium the day of the game, will be led by Gill and senior defensive back Chris Harris.
In addition, the first 500 youths who arrive can pick up a “Drug-Free Jayhawk” bracelet and the first 5,000 fans will receive a free T-shirt.
