Could only do 1.5 miles :( Running early in the week always kills my energy for the rest of the week.  Gotta build up to it I s'pose.
start breaking it up.  walk a little when u need to rest and then start running again when ur ready. would still be a morale victory.

I ran 3 miles on Monday.  I was .1 miles away from my goal of the 5k.  Couldn't make it.  I'm going to try again tonight.  I can't do a fast mile, i'm running a 12 minute mile right now (more like a jog) but it's still exhausting for me.
Do you listen to music while you run or go without? Usually if I run without music I am terrible, my thoughts get to me and I tell myself Im tired and then don't finish.  :frown:
Gotta go w/ music.  You have to have something to distract you from the pain and exhaustion imo.

I listen to podcasts. I get too bored with just music. FYI, you can download the entire print version of the Economist now.

Yeah, pretty much the same with me except instead of the Economist I listen to Lil Wayne mixtapes
pffttt. yeah how do u get bored with music but can listen to a podcast?

I ran out of new 'casts in the middle of my workout today so I threw on goEMAW podcast #5.  Wow, we were drunk.

Also, between sets, I hear a muffled voice saying "help..."  Some dude was getting crushed on the incline bench behind me.  I hustled over there to get the bar up and in the process saw he was wearing a ku shirt.  So I guess I saved a ku guy's life which I figure gives me the ethical freedom to choke out another 6 or 7.

If none of your chokeouts die you prolly can go as high as 10-12 and come out even

Next time pretend like you didn't hear him. That is why I wear headphones at the gym. I can still hear everything but I can pretend I don't.
Where did you get that overnight bag?

I had headphones in (listening to podcast #5).  Still heard him and instinctively turned around.  He was on the incline bench where your head is lower than your feet and it was positioned to where his head was towards my bench.  So as soon as I turned around, his blue face was staring right at me.

God yes sometimes I don't even have my music on. Also a good way not to have to talk to somebody there you don't want to.

Once I can get down to a 10 minute mile i'll start working on the 10k.

And I think i'm going to start this: http://hundredpushups.com
When doing workouts like this, you should try, if at all possible,  for your heart rate to be under 160 beats per minute at all times. In order to work up to 5ks and 10ks your aerobic base needs to get bigger.

Could only do 1.5 miles :( Running early in the week always kills my energy for the rest of the week.  Gotta build up to it I s'pose.
Definitely should build up to it. It takes about 20-25 minutes to actually start stretching your aerobic base, so at your pace probably do a couple miles 2 or 3 days in a row then go out at an even slower pace or walk/rest for a day. Then repeat, and maybe add in a harder day where you get in your full 5k or more.

I know it seems like a bitch, but I swear this is the best way to do it. So easy to see your improvement, which starts slow but speeds up later. Hope this helps, I'm just getting back into it and I'm doing this as well.

I've got about 35 to go to put me at "normal" weight for my height.  Will probably take awhile.

Over the past 2 months, I've lost 15 lbs, but all of September, work has been kicking my butt. I hate working late, coming home tired and not wanting to do anything. So I'm still sticking to hiking on the weekends, but my daily routine has been getting ditched. Need to get back at it. My diet is still going strong. I eat on average 1400-1600 calories. Sometimes get as low as 1200 on some days.

you can eat too few calories and cause your body to freak out and start storing fat because it thinks it's not going to get the right amount.

i went to the doctor and had a battery of blood tests done, came out smelling like a rough ridin' rose on mother's day.  since then i've up'd my intake of 5 guys and Strouds, and tried to eat a Double Down at least once a week.

so far, so good.  thanks for checking in with me bros.

1200-1400 is usually a safe minimum if you're not a twig, based on everything I've read.
