Not our year.
Glad Banks is here.
Assuming Delton gets a medical redshirt, it means our QB's next year will be as follows: Senior, Junior, Sophomore, Freshman, Redshirting.
Hell, IF Ertz is able to return, we could even redshirt Delton again next year. This would put him and Thompson as freshman when Banks is a senior and Ertz is a junior.
You can't redshirt someone twice. If Delton is given a medical redshirt, which in all likelihood he will if these rumors are true, the only way he would be able to get another redshirt is if he were to get hurt again and missed a significant majority of time.
I'm 90% sure they can redshirt in addition to a medical.
No you can not. College athletic eligibility in the NCAA is 5 years to play 4. The 6th year can only be acquired by applying for a medical hardship. You only get medical hardship if you suffer multiple season ending injuries or a severe illness like leukemia.
Sorry trim and s_w I don't have the energy to be mean today. I wanted to call yard dog a stupid eff in another thread but I just can't do it right now.
You can use a medical redshirt after using a normal redshirt. Jordan Shipley did this for UT...redshirted, then got hurt and was granted a medical, and then played four years after that. He did not have multiple season ending injuries (just one), and he did not have leukemia. That said, I do vaguely remember UT petitioning the NCAA (and, of course, winning). The only difference (under my proposal) is that here Delton would be using a medical this year THEN a "normal" redshirt the year before. Perhaps that makes a difference....I don't know.
Question: If the normal rule is 5 to play 4, why distinguish between a redshirt and medical? Are there different rules for how much you can play and still be eligible to claim each one? So, Delton would not be eligible to claim a normal redshirt based on his participation in two games (two quarters?), but would be able to claim a medical redshirt? Honest question.....I don't know the answer here.
Also, what is the recovery time for a meniscus? Could Delton conceivable be back for part of this year? Would that complicate the medical redshirt issue for this year?
