I used to be very afraid of snakes (still afraid of the ones that can kill me fwiw) but yesterday while visiting my grandmother this garter snake came right up to me and I decapitated it with a garden hoe.

you should be scared of social interaction with me.  because i'll beat the rough ridin' crap out of you if i ever see you.
I'd brake your hip and clavicle you old eff.  :)

Are you afraid of having to use a walker for the rest of your life?  :runaway:

I used to be afraid of going crazy (as in medically crazy).  Now I am either not scared of that anymore, or my mind has deteriorated to the point where I don't know any better.

my Great Grandpa CF3 and my regular Grandpa CF3 both got Alzheimer's and it was terrible. My grandpa was a really smart guy, an electrical engineer who had been in the Air Force in Korea and stuff, and when he wasn't the same, it sucked. Real scared of that happening to CF3's dad or CF3.

Best way to look at all this stuff (we prolly figure this out as we live life long enough) is you can be afraid of almost anything, but once you eventually confronting the fear, intentionally or by accident, you end up realizing that it's not that big of a deal and you just wasted a part of the limited time we all have in this life worrying about something that was no big deal.

If you worry about death, there's nothing you can do about it in most cases, so why waste time worrying about it? Just imagine your kids will ultimately be better off if you croak when they are young because they are going to improvise with the limited tools you were able to give them and will become total badasses in life.

So there you go...

The list is far too long to name the stuff that I used to be scared of.

I have really been trying work on not worrying about the crap I can't control.  However, I still have loads of stuff that I can control that I am scared of, but that's mostly because I am a pussy.

Alzheimer's is the worst. It's rampant on my wife's side. My mother also had it.

I mean Alzheimers is really bad and that is scary and so is the fact that you will die but good grief people.  You can't conquer either of those!

i'm not afraid of being dead but i'm very afraid of the pain that comes with death. like, it's either a slow deterioration or you feel your entire body seize up in a heart attack or hear your bones snap in a car wreck.

an in-law of mine had a bazillion heart attacks and he always said that he would try to let go during them but the pain was so great that he'd have to fight against them and he'd end up staying alive. i'm scared of that situation but i'm also scared of having a decade or two of increasingly poor health leading to the inevitable. woof. :frown:

I don't see the connection between being able to "conquer" something and it not being scary. the opposite actually makes more sense to me. like, it seems more logical that not being able to control alzheimer's onset would make it more scary.

like, what's scarier: being locked out of the pilots cabin when someone slowly takes a plane down and you know there's nothing you can do about it or sitting next to someone trying to take it down and having a chance (no matter how small) to stop them? the second seems much less scary.

1st is way scarier. Its like, what's scarier, falling off a cliff, or watching someone you care about fall off a cliff. I vote #2

dying. I used to not be scared of this. now I am terrified because of lil sd and both worrying about him being taken care of properly and me missing all of his stuff. also of anything happening to lil sd. I am a terrified parent.
Same, its just the worst
