Yes, 10  is perfect for the ksu cats.  I  do wish we could replace WVU with  somebody that would better fit the footprint and not want to expand or leave.

I wish we could trade WVU for Arky straight up.

I think WVU and B12 would be down, but Ark/SEC would not (I know you know that). But realistically, I don't think the trade would make any difference money wise for either conference. However, I suppose the SEC may make more money down the road and Ark wouldn't get to chant SEC anymore.

I know, I know, "never gonna happen".

But somebody on Shaggy Bevo brought up a good point about how much longer are Arky fans going to put up with always being 3rd, 4th, 5th in their conference.    At some point the SEC-SEC-SEC starts to wear off right?   Or are the group of schools that haven't won an SEC Football Championship in a combined gazzillion years just happy to be there?

prolly the best chance for this to happen is in the next few years, before the boosters that remember the glory days of the 60s,70s and 80s begin to die off.  When the only ones left chanted "ESSS EEE CEEE" as an undergrad what ever window there may be will have closed.

Bob Bowlsby threw down the gauntlet this morning in blasting the NCAA. Said major changes needed in leadership structure and philosophy. Added that they have major issues with the size of D-1 and the small school majority outvoting good legislation for bigger schools.  Suggested that a new divisional strutcure) see split off of largers schools for FB) may be needed.  He basically took Mike Slive's attacking of the NCAA and took it up a level.

Also saw a tweet that ACC commish hinted that a new division for football may come sooner than later.

Big12 would probably be more appealing butthurt-wise for Ark if Texas wasn't involved.  Then again, Big12 would be a lot less appealing money-wise if Texas weren't involved.

on general principle I agree with you, but if KSU is on the right side of the new line in the sand it could but my fears of all the bad things that could of happened in this thread to bed for good.

KSU won't be on the right side of the new line in the sand.  We're one of the smaller schools that the Texas' and Ohio State's of the world want to have less revenue participation.

we are at least competing even if our economic resources are closer to a MAC school than tOSU or UT.  Also, the big boys know they can't have a schedule of just big boys beating on each other all season long - current SEC scheduling is a perfect example of that.

Half of the schools in Bowlsby's conference are on the wrong side of that line. I hate him.

It could be the end of K-State on a major conference level,  :dunno: (I had to get that out there because you never know).

But you guys need to study things a little closer here.

Bowlsby is clearly taking a shot at all the schools trying to crawl their way into D1 football, and the smaller athletic department conferences.

Let me give you an example.   The total revenue for every MAC athletic program in 2011 was $256 million.    The Big 12's total revenue for every athletic program was $312 million more in 2011.   That gap is just going to get wider.

K-State for example made more off of Total Media/NCAA/Conference distributions in 2013 than Ohio U made in total revenue for the entire athletic department.    Not trying to pick on the MAC, but that's a fairly robust Mid-Major conference, the revenue differential gets even bigger when you go down the list.   Yet, you've got all those schools with big plans to play D1 football.

I fully admit that if they want to get super exclusive that may not bode will for K-State, but IMO Bowlsby isn't talking about us, or TCU, he's talking about Middle Tennesee and Florida Atlantic and UTSA etc. etc.

Clearly not Texas State though since we're getting a Big 12 invite in 10 years :don'tcare:

I like those guys in D1 football, though. It's fun when a program like that actually puts a good team on the field.

If I understand this correctly, the larger conferences want to further categorize college athletics and basically dump the basketball/FCS footbal schools, like Dax said.  The gripe isn't necessarily with anyone outside of the Top 5-8 conferences, but with the Gonzaga's, Butler's, new Big East schools, etc.  They don't want non-football schools vetoing legislation that helps schools that play FBS football.

I think what this would mean is an end to D1 as we know it, the NCAA tournament as we know it, and a slight contraction of FBS (maybe down to 80-100 members).  My personal belief is that you'll probably see the top 5 conferences stay where they are, but the AAC/MWC/CUSA/MAC/Sun Belt will probably all start shuffling and form, maybe, 2-3 conferences with the strongest possible members.  AD's have been foreshadowing this for a long time.  Joe Castiglone has gone on record saying that there would have to be consolidation at lower levels for them to stay competitive in the future.

I think paying players via a stipend is going to be the line in the sand.  I've never felt like you'd have 30-40 large schools break away.  That is too messy.  All you have to do is put forth they "pay-to-play" criteria and that keeps it inclusive enough that you'll stay away from nasty political/lawsuit type stuff.

I think that by the end of this round of the BCS, we'll have 5-8 conferences, an 8-team playoff, a smaller basketball tournament, and a greater expansion of the FCS/Mid-Major realm.

The forces are in place now to turn college athletics into a semi-pro league.  I don't think much can change that now.  It's going to happen; it's just a matter of time.

Forget Arkansas.  Let's trade for Mizzou.

Hear me out.  The Big 12 would get rid of a distant whiny fanbase and would get a nearby whiny fanbase in exchange.  The SEC would get rid of one mid/low-level program and add one mid/low-level program.  From the conference perspective, there's really nothing to dislike about the deal.  WVU fans would be overjoyed, so that's a bonus.  Missouri fans would be pissed, which is what makes the whole idea so attractive.

I think it sucks, but I think this is what it's building towards.

I don't think there will be a breakaway, but I think there will be further classification changes.

Senator Grassley (R-IA) has been spouting this idea for over a decade. What is weird is he is a UNI alum and this would pretty much run their athletic department into the ground budget-wise. If Iowa State is on the wrong side of the line, I want tax exemption removed, if Iowa State is on the right side of the line... hell no. Guess I've never been accused of not being a homer before.

It would run every program into the ground, budget-wise, other than maybe the super profitable KSU Cats.

Well, the tricky part about the stipend is the fact that so many athletic departments are subsidized by the university.  If you start paying players, and you're taking money from a publicly funded university to fund your athletic department,  it's going to get really, really messy.
