emaw hero Doug Gottlieb is on local sports radio today ( ) and brought up the point that this stuff isn't going to happen, because when those smaller schools get shoved out they will cry foul, and the tax exemption might go away...and $$$ talks.

Senator Grassley (R-IA) has been spouting this idea for over a decade. What is weird is he is a UNI alum and this would pretty much run their athletic department into the ground budget-wise. If Iowa State is on the wrong side of the line, I want tax exemption removed, if Iowa State is on the right side of the line... hell no. Guess I've never been accused of not being a homer before. 

It would run every program into the ground, budget-wise, other than maybe the super profitable KSU Cats.

Well, the tricky part about the stipend is the fact that so many athletic departments are subsidized by the university.  If you start paying players, and you're taking money from a publicly funded university to fund your athletic department,  it's going to get really, really messy.

As this thread closes in on page 1000, its hard not to look back and see how big it was that we survived in 2010 and 2011. Man it would suck to be a Cincinnati or UCONN right now with the way College Football is shifting. We could easily be stuck in some monstrosity like the AAC. Nice to be on the otherside of the cut line and safe going forward (probably), especially by solidifying ourselves with the success we've had and the facility improvements we've just made and are continuing to make.
