I think it would be neat if it's true.  There probably is some value in it, but $50 million annually in replays?

I guess if the Big 12 started putting conference themed programming on it like a daily or weekly highlight program or broadcasting rights to non-revenue sports or stuff that we typically tend to syndicate (i.e. basketball games on ESPN+), then maybe it makes the money work.

I'm interested in this because it's finding ways to make money on every scrap of video you have laying around.  If it's true, these guys really can squeeze water out of a rock in terms of generating revenue streams.

The Sooners would also fit perfectly into the western flank for the Big Ten. A larger issue might be whether Oklahoma coming *alone* without Oklahoma State is truly possible since the Big Ten wouldn't be willing to add OSU in a package deal (similar to how the conference would only want Kansas without Kansas State). I've spoken with a lot of OU and KU fans that believe that they could drop their respective in-state brothers if necessary, but I'm not quite sure of that whenever state politicians and high profile boosters like T. Boone Pickens inevitably get involved when there's a viable threat to their special interests out there. Personally, I'd love to see Oklahoma in the Big Ten (as I believe that any further Big Ten expansion absolutely needs an elite football brand name involved), but the academic issue and whether Oklahoma State has to come along are large roadblocks.

I would like to see BIG add KU, MU, UVA, UNC. What level of probability do you see in that happening?

Missouri is almost certainly off-the-table since the Big Ten has continuously shown that it doesn't want Mizzou (as they have passed them over on multiple occasions) and, on the other side, there's very little incentive for any school to leave the SEC for another league (just as any suggestion that anyone would defect from the Big Ten is asinine).

Man, who is the bigger "talking point" these days of the resident ku fans, because there's just not much original going on here with these guys.

Mhvr3 (one of the WVU crazies) is tweeting something that actually makes sense, seems plausible, and doesn't seem like something someone would just make up.

He's saying the Big12, ESPN, Fox, and Netflix are working on a $500MM, 10 year deal that would include allowing Netflix to rebroadcast some games on some level. It would also include giving Nexflix access to historical games that the Big12 owns the rights to.  In the deal the Big12 would get 30%, or $15MM per year/$1.5MM per school per year.

The Shag had some good elaborations on this, thinking the lack of a conference network allows the Big12 to do this in a manner other conferences can't since their networks have first rights at rebroadcasts.  Netflix has stated in the past they want in the sports business and this is a good first step that could lead to more lucrative deals down the road, liking airing live games on netflixs as a de-facto conference network or pay-per-view setup.

Don't believe anything that comes off that stupid Hill Billy board. Proven liars and tards'.  :don'tcare:

does anyone actually care if ku leaves?  I think it'd be hilarious if they pulled a mizzou and went to another conference to make less money and lose more games

being a conference expansion expert is just about the most pathetic thing i can imagine.

i'd rather be a meth-addicted homeless rummy who just lost his last pair of shoes gambling on little league baseball than be a conference expansion expert.

As noted above, I think that there's a chance because Oklahoma (despite not meeting the AAU membership requirement) is such a massive football brand. Personally, I'd love to see Oklahoma in the Big Ten (as I believe that any further Big Ten expansion absolutely needs an elite football brand name involved), but the academic issue and whether Oklahoma State has to come along are large roadblocks.

Short-term, it's probably very low since the ACC and Big 12 have new grant of rights arrangements that put a damper on movement. Long-term, I think Kansas is the strongest possibility on that list provided that it doesn't have to bring along Kansas State (which the Big Ten wouldn't accept). That's a school that I believe would accept a Big Ten invitation sight unseen and in turn, as a blue blood basketball brand, would be extremely attractive to the financially-driven Big Ten powers that be (even though Kansas doesn't necessarily have the largest population base). UVA would be next, although they're much more wedded to the ACC than KU is to the Big 12. Culture matters and Virginia still considers itself to be southern (albeit more in the form of the wine-and-cheese ACC than the more rough around the edges SEC). That has been shifting as the growth of the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC has been making the state's demographics look more "northern" and whenever the balance tips more toward the North than the South (which will almost inevitably happen within a generation), that's when the Big Ten can realistically grab UVA.

Don't forget the part where ku is slipping the leash of Board of Regents because when they grow up, they'll pay all their own bills and not rely on the State of Kansas for funding.  They can do anything they want!

Now, I equate that with a 4 year old threatening the run away from home.  ku fans can talk all they want about their independence, but their lips are firmly on the tits of the state's general fund, to the tune of $247 million.  Squawk, squawk.
