According to the latest from Orange Bloods . . . the Notre Dame governing board is still split down the middle on staying independent or going to the Big 10.    Personally I think they'd be stupid to stay independent . . . the Big 10 TV deal pays out $6 or $7 million more than their TV deal per year, and if the Big East breaks up they won't have to cobble together a conference for their other sports.

EW . . . great point.   The remaining Big 12 could bring in the MWC and likely easily maintain BCS status . . . and likely have the Big 12 Network model already in hand.

I understand about MWC basketball . . . but it's not like there's no one there capable of being decent.   Utah was good under Majerus, UNM appears to be headed up under Alford, BYU doesn't suck.   Yeah it's not as compelling as the Big 12 in hoops, I get that . . . the new Big East has some intrigue as well, I just don't see those remaining Big East teams sticking out their hand very far to get K-State though.

But . . . ND says Yes to the Big 10 and it's all over on the Big 10 side, Cornhole and Moo will be told to go F themselves.   The lynchpin is STILL Notre Dame.

If the MWC were to add KSU and Baylor, or KSU and KU, then the BBall, IMO, will be roughly as good as the Big 12 today.  I mean, really after the top four teams, it's all a crap shoot anyway.

Utah, KSU, KU (or Baylor), UNLV, BYU, New Mexico...that's pretty good competition in the upper half.  It would raise the overall profile of the conference too, so that wouldn't hurt recruiting too much.

You can have a good program in a crap conference if you win a boatload of games and send kids to the NBA.  I mean, look at Memphis and Cincy back in the day.

Hey dick heads:  KU and KSU are joined a the hip per Kansas Regent and Legal Eagle Dan Lykins.

Every subsequent scenario discussed in this thread should include this reality or it might as well have a rough ridin' unicorn in it.

I think the NYT article said that you had to have six members that have played together for five years to maintain BCS status.  Best case scenario is that we'd carry over five members (North minus CU and NU, or plus Baylor).

I completely agree, though.  I'd rather make a conference than join one.  It opens the possibility of adding teams like Cincy and Memphis to create a basketball super-conference after the Big East is dismantled.

Talked to my conference insider today. Same one that told me about Patterson (before it fitzed up).

Texas AD told nubb and mizz that right now, 'they're dating the second best girl and wanting to date the number one girl...but they better be careful, because the number two girl is about to dump them.'

basically, EVERYTHING is going to be in nebraska's hands. If they stay, then the big 12 stays together. They leave, and the 6 teams go to the pac10. That simple. Mizz fracked themselves and are going to be out regardless. Utah is the replacement.

Baylor isn't going to be bailed out by the Texas legislature this time. It'll be the south teams minus Baylor and Colorado that would get the invites.

Ku lobbied for the pac10 group, but UCLA said absolutely not...they have nothing to offer, and would just take hoops trophies. Ku is in worse shape than ksu as far as appeal.

MWC would likely pick up ksu and Baylor.

The above is 100% accurate. He is a high ranking person in a south school and has been in on closed door meetings.

I believe Dax's quote about Mizzou being "face down, ass up" for the Big 10 applies here vis-a-vis ku towards the Pac 10.

I'm still envision KU ending up in the Big 10 when all the dust settles.

If Nebraska tells Texas to shazbot! themselves at the end of this week, as I believe they will, then the Pac 10 grows to 16 and the Big 10 will follow suit regardless if Notre Dame is part of the equation.

At that point, they'll take Nebraska, Missouri, their pick from the Big East....and most likely Kansas.

MWC basketball isn't as terrible as everyone is making it out to be. If KU and Baylor come with us, it would be a pretty solid conference, actually. Even without KU, I'm sure we would continue to play them in the nonconference schedule.

Name the last Mountain West scrub to win a National Title, make a Final 4, or Elite 8.

This isn't about not being terrible.  This is about having the ability to compete at a championship level on a high profile stage.

The BCS and NCAA may grant this to prevent the destruction of college athletics as we know it.

Or they may not.  Probably not.

Reality is, two of the best teams in college football played each other in a BCS bowl game last year in TCU and Boise State.   Anyone who doesn't think either one of those teams couldn't have played with any of the other BCS bowl teams last year didn't pay any attention to college football.

Utah, two years ago, embarrassed Alabama who was an eyelash away from playing for the BCS title.

I bet we are, like, worst enemies with all the Mormon schools in the MWC.  Seems like our fans would be really good at being really mean to them given our fanbase's general white trashyness and fundamental christian majority.

Every time BYU comes to town, we need to show the video of Mario Smith almost decapitating that guy.
