Let's not forget that FSU has to pay a $20 million buyout (or whatever it will be).  We just got done helping WVU out here.  We probably need to sign the new TV contract and get fronted some cash to help them out with that.

It may be better for us to wait a year, regardless.  We don't know if Pitt and Syracuse will be joining the ACC in 2013.  They're suing to get out, but you never know.

If we took FSU and someone else from the ACC in 2013, we'd put them under 12 teams and potentially put them at risk for not meeting their TV contracts.  However, if we wait to take until 2014, we probably reduce the risk of lawsuits.

Adding an elite national brand like FSU, getting the Big XII in Florida, and crippling the ACC is worth every bit of $20 million, IMO.

Wouldn't even bat an eyelash at it.  Hell, if Texas made the three headed dorkstore comprised of KU, K-State, Iowa State fund it ourselves, I'd still be all for it.

Just not a fan of the passively waiting around strategy.  Our biggest downfall has been being far too reactionary and not proactive in the Big XII.

If we want an asset, we effing take it.  Like the Big 10 has, like the Pac 12 has, and like the SEC has.  It we want to consider ourselves part of the Big 4, we act like it.

I don't care about the buyout or lawsuit or any of that crap. I want to watch K-State play FSU and Clemson regularly, and if there is any way the Big 12 can make that happen this year, they should do that, regardless of the cost.

It's a great long-term investment, but we may not have the funds for it right now.  Everyone is spending all of their buyout cash and/or using it to front WVU and TCU's exit fees.  Who knows how much the conference currently has?

Bowlsby isn't even really on the job yet due to the Olympics, TCU and WVU aren't voting members for another week, the Presidential Oversight Committee (or whatever it's called) hasn't decided on the final playoff format, we have no idea what the payout model will look like for the playoff, etc.  There is so much out there that's unknown that FSU may feel jumpy, but they may not feel full-on committed to a move.

I think their BoT has been very open about their desire to look around.  Even the new guys seem like they're willing to look at moving.  I think that once they sit down and start looking at how 14 teams will look in he new ACC, how that affects their schedule, how much money we're making and all of that will take away any leverage they have in the discussions.

I feel pretty strongly that we want to move forward with 11 football members and ND as a partial.  If FSU won't move for less than twelve teams, it may be a deal breaker.  We're not going to be forced into taking Clemson or someone else just to satisfy FSU.

I don't disagree, but maybe some would prefer Louisville?

And maybe FSU doesn't want Clemson?  Maybe they feel like it should be Georgia Tech (for all we know)?

GT is actually the closest ACC school to FSU.  They are academically "superior".  They bring Atlanta.  They are a historical partner with ND (even if that relationship is currently dormant).

Think about it like this.  Let's just say that the best we can hope for is ND as a non-football member.  If we want them to schedule six Big 12 games per year, as is rumored, and they are a thirteenth partial member, this could be your lineup:

Texas (has a current scheduling agreement with ND)
Oklahoma (has a current scheduling agreement with ND)
FSU (would most like be a partner here because it would be a huge moneymaker for both programs)
Georgia Tech (this could allow them to easily rekindle the rivalry)

The last two games per year could be ND/TCU in Dallas, ND/KSU in KC, ND/WVU in Pittsburgh, etc.

If that's your mix of teams, ND barely has to change a single thing about what they do today, and they can fill out half of their schedule with Big 12 teams.  Sure, it would put them at a competitive disadvantage, but man, it would make NBC very happy, it would make ABC very happy, and everyone would get rich.

I know that everyone, including myself, has reservations about partial members, but other non-Clemson teams have their selling points.
