yeah, but who cares.  at that point a BCS bid is meaningless.  A BCS bid is pretty meaningless anyway.  I mean, if your conference winner can't make a BCS game you are pretty shitty anyway (which we would be sans Texas).  too much is made of the BCS crap.  If you have good teams, you have good teams.  I have no desire to have a group of crap teams that somehow holds onto a BCS bid for a year or two because of some clause or some crap.  

I'm not saying it's meaningful, but what is your ideal scenario if we lose Texas? We will be in a crap conference no matter what. Why not keep the BCS status as long as possible?

In today's climate you really want the conference to keep getting stronger.  We did not get stronger by losing Nubb, CU, and aTm.  Meanwhile, the Big 10, SEC, and Pac 10 (not because of CU though) all got stronger and look to be further expanding.  We can't afford to just sit still and let the other conferences pick our conference apart.  Also, more schools= more tvs= bigger tv contracts.

This is rough ridin' Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).  It completely ignores the fact that you have to split the pot with each addition, so if the addition doesn't bring with it at least a value that exceeds (or at least equals) the value of each current team, than it doesn't make sense.  How does adding a school in rough ridin' Utah (which gives you at least 40 additional tv sets) provide accretive value greater than what we currently have with 9?

Don't get me wrong, I hate BYU, but they have a lot of fans.  Try every mormon in the country, and unfortunately there's a lot of those people, which in turn means a lot of tv sets.

Seriously though, you could cherry pick 6-8 teams from C-USA and the MWC and have a good conf (in fb and bball).  Give those schools more money and exposure and they'll expand and grow.  The conf naturally becomes more competitive, better and more marketable.  If you add schools that are already established, even better.  Conferences should be long term thinking, not what did Texas do today type of thinking.  The population is moving South and in case you haven't noticed some of these Southerly teams are starting to put together really nice football programs.

BYU would be a great addition. They have a ton of fans, a great football program, and they open up a completely new market. There are some Conference USA teams that wouldn't be that bad, either. I just think that adding too many shitty programs is subtraction by addition, and I don't think we can get to 16 without adding some very shitty football programs.
