Should Oklahoma act upon its earnest desires and seek an invitation to join the Pacific-12 Conference — something I'm fully expecting to happen within days, if not hours — that decision could well be the killing blow to the Big 12 while also providing Texas the political cover to follow suit and ask for admission as well.

Quote
Missouri ends up in the Big Ten or ACC, and Kansas heads to the Big East. If for some inexplicable reason Texas chooses not to pursue Pac-12 membership, look for Texas Tech to be left out and expect the Pac-12 to focus on Kansas and Missouri along with OU and OSU. Don't dawdle, Texas.

BYU remains a possibility, but its use of older, more mature athletes because of two-year mission trips, its refusal to play on Sundays and its lack of an impeccable academic pedigree make it a harder sell.

I would consider BYU to have more of an academic pedigree than any of the Big 12 sans Texas.

We're going to the Mountain West aren't we? Just give it to me straight.

If we go to the MWC fine, I just want the Big 12-3 to hold out long enough for us to get the rough ridin' stadium expansion project done.  If we go to a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) conference, I want us to have the coolest looking Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) stadium.

The sinking ship

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/6912807/texas-aggies-tell-big-12-seek-new-conference

Do you get the feeling that Big 12 AD's/Admins have to say out loud that the Big 12 is okay just to convince themselves, even though it seems increasingly likely that it will be done forever in the next 2-3 years?

Adding Pitt, Louisville, ND, or Arkansas are pipe dreams. Why join the Texas 9 when it has the most perverse revenue sharing agreement of all major conferences?

The only way it lasts is to get more teams (like us) that need Texas to survive in a BCS conference. Hello BYU? Houston? SMU?

My fingers are crossed that the SEC gives TAMU the finger and they end up being forced to play as an independent in 2012.

A&M's Mr. Peanut Prez :

"This is a 100-year decision that we have addressed carefully and methodically."

WTF does that mean?

I know, but all I have to rely on now are dreams OR the inevitable moment that we are looking for a new conference.

Most importantly, to reiterate - the Big 12 does not have as fair a distribution of revenues as other BCS conferences. This is the major reason teams are bolting. Yes, the new TV contract makes things better in terms of overall dollars, but equitable revenue sharing still remains the problem, at least for those schools that have the ability to draw interest from the SEC's and Big Ten's (read: not Kansas State). I'm resigned to entering the Mountain West.

At least I'm making it back to MHK to attend the TAMU game, really looking forward to the anger in the crowd.

No it's not.  NU and aTm voted against equal revenue sharing.

sec voted no once already.  you can't say with any certainty how the second vote will go until it happens.  that's why they play the games.

But, isn't it the case that Texas also voted against this?

The Big Ten and SEC shares revenues equally among all members. The Big 12 does not (or at least has not historically), it only distributes non-TV money evenly. Now, the details of the new TV contract I am not clear on, someone else may be able to help with this...

The people who get screwed from unequal revenue sharing are the same people who are going to get screwed when everybody leaves. Everybody who is attractive to other conferences benefits from unequal revenue sharing.

While it might make sense for BYU to join the Big 12 for purely football reasons, BYU will stay independent. Why? BYU left the Mountain West not for football reasons, but for religious reasons. BYU wants to be independent so that the Cougars can put all their football games on the BYU Network. They want to drive network viewership up, but not exactly for the same reasons that the Longhorn Network and the Big Ten Network do. BYU and the BYU Network are trying to convert people to Mormonism.

To that end, BYU will not tolerate any conference interference with their plans to grow their television network.

NU bolted because of conference instability. They wanted a Big 12 network and asked everyone at the table to give up their tv rights to form the network. Texas would not give up theirs and commit to stay in the conference until 2015. Osborne seems kind of prophetic now doesn't he?

NU could see the writing on the wall.

Enjoy the MWC

Only 24% of the total TV take for the Big 12 starting next year is at risk, the other 76% is guranteed, and of course that doesn't include what any school can do on their own.

All bowl and NCAA tourney revenue will follow the equal share process once you get past the participating bowl team extra share.

The Big 12 TV revenue sharing formula is a strawman.

NU left because their institutionalized low self esteem couldn't handle getting beat by Texas and OU anymore.

Texas is not the reason this conference is failing. It's the jealousy of Nebraska and Texas A&M. Texas has done everything in their power to keep the conference together. Colorado only bolted because they wanted to make sure Baylor didn't take their spot on the last life boat.
