As I've been saying all along, the conference will blunt the A&M damage by inviting in BYU in the near future. In fact, this will bolster the conference's TV value.

After that, I think the league will seek two more schools. Notre Dame isn't happening, and neither will Arkansas. Sadly, I think Dan Beebe would add two more Texas schools and call it a success. I think adding any more Texas schools is a mistake.

This conference can look east to Louisville and Cincinnati (my preference) or keep heading west with schools such as Air Force and New Mexico, which adds a decent TV market. My plan is to add UNLV and Tulane so at least we can have a good time before the conference implodes.

Seriously, adding Louisville and Cincy leaves the remaining members in a stronger spot if four schools are poached in the future. The league would still have eight schools and then could add schools such as TCU, NM, AF, Memphis and/or other Texas schools to return to 12. The conference would be greatly weakened but survive as the Big 12 and like the Big East have a BCS designation despite being a hoops prominent conference.

Memphis could be a prospect IF they actually started investing some real money into their football program. But as of now, no way.

Houston would be a better prospect of that type of school because Houston has actually won a major conference championship multiple times in the not to distant past, and the only reason they didn't get into the Big 12 was because Baylor had more friends in high places.

Houston is actually well on the way to financing a brand new football stadium.

Can anyone tell me the simplified reason why

A) Big12/former Big12 teams are leaving/getting taken to other conferences.

and

B) The Big 12 isn't the one picking off possible candidates from other major conferences.

This is the real issue isn't it? Why is the Big 12 not viable (or at-least not as viable as it used to seem), and why are teams so hell-bent on leaving?

Yeah, its simple. Nebraska and aTm just got tired of Texas even though in either case its hard to see how they benefit a lot from a move. Colorado had a bit of that, but I think they saw an opportunity to jump to the Pac 10 and thought the league was going to be destroyed and it wasn't. At least not yet.

So the question remains. Why is the conference still so fragile? Why are now more conference members the subject of speculation regarding moving to other conferences. Why, are the remaining teams not solidly yolked together, and why do they not for a strong enough unit to entice schools (including those from other conferences) to join the Big 12?

yes, they're the only school left that wants out. no one wants them though. the big 10 would lol in their face (already did actually). the only risk is that every eastern team shoots the sec down and they fall back to mu. not sure mu would even go to the sec though. the sec is no big 10.

We don't have complete revenue sharing so schools can be enticed away. We are close enough east to make sense their, and barely close enough West to have them go after us aswell. Lets just stay on our knees and keep praying for Texas love.

Agreed. ATM and NU were never about equality, imo. They were just dissatisfied with their glass (though still better served than most) within the inequality that they helped usher in.
