It is. The only thing better about the Big 12 is the travel. Half of the Big 10 share is more money and greater academic and athletic prestige.

If the Big 10 offers UW/UO anything at all, the Big 12 shouldn't take them.

Why? do we want to cut off our nose to spite our faces? Anyone can be plucked in the next round of realignment. We need to do what's best for us now. Personally I think what's best is to just stick to regionalization, but that's out, for now anyway.

If they are only coming to wait out the Big 10's next media deal, that doesn't really help us negotiate our next deal. And it doesn't really help us in the meantime because the pro rata clause applies regardless of which P5 schools we take. Better to grab ASU and Utah.

twitter/x saying big 10 is looking at OR/WA/CAL/STAN. Cal would have to be the most undeserving school to get into a major conference of all time.

What did the state decide for Cal when USC/UCLA left?  I thought USC/UCLA had to share some of their distribution or something.  The only reason I can think for adding Cal would be to appease USC and UCLA on that end.

The Big 10's deal expires before ours, they're going to dictate the market regardless. It makes sense to have the best programs available in our hands going into that time frame than just to let them sit out there because we're scared of maybes. That's like not hiring the best coach available because you think he's going to be good then go somewhere else.

They got exactly what they were looking for when they added Rutgers and that reason has nothing to do with anything they would do with any school now. They needed cable carriers in NYC and DC for the Big 10 Network, that's why they added Rutgers and Maryland, no other reason and it completely worked. Now the question is whether they needed to add Rutgers to get the big cable carriers in NYC, but they got them regardless.

Yeah, it seems stupid, but just like now, it was about money back then and there are a crap load of people paying for the Big 10 Network in the NY area that don't even know where it is in the guide.

I would guess there are more hardcore Penn State, Ohio State, and Michigan fans in NYC than Rutgers fans. Becky Quick and a guy I work with are the only Rutgers fans I've ever seen and I don't think the guy I work with is even much of a fan.

Wazzu is a train wreck,  but I agree with you on Oregon State.   Will likely be a few ACC schools that suffer the same fate once that conference is plundered.

Is the fanbase / student pop anything close to the actual populations of Arizona? Isn't ASU some ultra party school?
