as long as there is a glimmer of hope for them to get to the BIG, they aren't signing or agreeing to crap. It does put them in a pretty weird spot if the others jump though. Would the BIG just take them if ASU, AZ, and Utah bail? Will they be on a island for a bit?

As much as I wanted OR/WA, it makes sense the big 10 takes them now. We get the other 3, and hopefully movement is done for awhile.

Although the recent comments from FSU suggest they're interested in moving sooner than later.

No way I'd want them if I were in the Big 10. Not until I see if FSU is able to blow up the ACC first. You can always get them later.

I don't think they will be on an island for long. They'll likely get to decide from staying in the Pac 12, taking full shares from the Big 12, or 1/2 or even less shares from the Big 10. Either way, they won't have long to decide.

As far as FSU goes, I don't know why anyone is talking about them and the ACC as if they are credible options anytime soon. Just because they aren't happy with their media deal right now, doesn't mean that all the people who need to jump to get them out of that deal are going to. Texas has their own damn network and they couldn't dip out of the Big 12 before the deal was up. Let's just say that the ACC decides to quash the deal they have with ESPN, do people think that ESPN will just let the schools and the conference out of that incredibly great, for ESPN, deal without significant penalties? Do we also think that ESPN will pay more in media rights fees for the schools that don't go to the Big 10 to go to the SEC and Big 12? The FSU board president is right that the GOR isn't a deterrent to them, because they can absolutely break it, there will be a very significant penalty for doing so. Even if they are prepared to absorb that penalty, doesn't mean that the rest of the schools in that conference can.

Also is everyone forgetting that the Big 10 just took ACC schools in the last round of realignment? Florida and the Carolinas had good schools, with significant programs with untapped media markets then too. Those schools aren't any more or less attractive than they were in 2010 when the Big 10 decided to get Maryland and Rutgers. No more or less attractive than when they decided to get USC and UCLA. The only thing that has changed is Florida State openly whining. They are going to be the ACCs version of OU crying about the Big 12 for the last decade, only they will have to cry for either two decades or until college football decides to pool their media rights one of the next 2-3 times the Big 10 and or SEC rights are up before the ACC rights expire again.

I’m really curious how you schedule a conference greater than 16. Teams flip from playing a majority of their conference mates to a minority. There’s going to frequently be a tie for 2nd place & the CCG spot where there is no good way to pick. There are multiple scheduling model options to help that. I’m curious what they choose.

Regarding FSU, Clemson, etc. - the interesting thing to me is that everyone assumes the SEC will take them. Why? With the exception of Texas - and that's really an entirely different stratosphere - the SEC has never expanded into a state where they already had a presence.

So, this assumption that FSU/Clemson are bound for the SEC doesn't make sense to me. If you're Sankey, I'm 99 percent confident the top prize is UNC. After that, it's less clear. But, UNC is also probably the top prize for the Big Ten too (minus ND). And, to MIR's point, the Big Ten could have already plucked a number of schools from the ACC and they picked Maryland and Rutgers. I don't think they could have had UNC or Virginia because of their commitment to the ACC (at least back then).

Still, that should be a reality check for FSU, Clemson, etc.

Yeah, it seems stupid, but just like now, it was about money back then and there are a crap load of people paying for the Big 10 Network in the NY area that don't even know where it is in the guide.

It is. The only thing better about the Big 12 is the travel. Half of the Big 10 share is more money and greater academic and athletic prestige.

Why? do we want to cut off our nose to spite our faces? Anyone can be plucked in the next round of realignment. We need to do what's best for us now. Personally I think what's best is to just stick to regionalization, but that's out, for now anyway.
