I think he means that there is nothing to "sell."  The buyers are very sophisticated and have teams of very well educated, smart, experienced people analyzing this from every angle.  Our conference commissioner isn't thinking of stuff that they haven't thought of.  He's just talking crap. We'll see if it works, but it does kinda look like narcissistic arrogance at the moment.

yeah the idea that a contract of this magnitude can offset the losses of its two most valuable assets with good old fashioned salesmanship shows a pretty serious lack of awareness. At least in my opinion.

The network contract needs to be higher just to meet the two extra mouths to feed as if they matched our present contract we would be making less per school.  So he may be correct in saying with are getting a larger contract, but there is no mention of payout per school.

EDIT:  I have read since last night that we may be north of 60 million per school, which is quite a bit more than we are getting with our existing contract.  Our total payout for '21 was reported to be 43 million.

He's also been quoted many times lately that he fully expects "per-school media rights revenue to increase from current deal", which is the reported 43 mill this year.

It's wild.

i fear he is selling more games that are not on Saturday- that may be fine for our new commuter schools but it not ideal for schools in actual college towns. 

that said the NFL moving thier Thursday game to Amazon could open up an opportunity for the Big 12 to work with ESPN to start a Thursday tradition that might be worth it in exposure if we get the full ESPN dog and pony show and not 6 pm kicks on ESPNU

This 1000%, I'd pretty easily pay $10-15 if it meant more or less having FSKC back for the k-state basketball games that weren't on the top tiers, and presumably more games you'd wouldn't normally get that I might idly watch if the matchup was intriguing (thinking volleyball/baseball/women's basketball, etc)

And to know that pretty much all tier 3 football games could migrate to something usable not named espn3 would also be baller

I've been saying since OU and UT left that the payout will be higher. Media rights deals have gone up for every single league since our last deal. The issue is that we' re going to get $50 when we would have been at $70 with OU and UT.

Exactly. If I were to guess most of our ESPN games will be on Thursdays and Fridays and most Fox games will be on Saturday. We'll keep Olympic and tier 3 sports on ESPN+ but will drop conference games from that platform in place of the weekday games.

That's not at all correct. The Big 12 office wanted a network for years, even before the Big 10 network was created but the Board of Governors didn't want it because they wanted to protect the individual third tier rights of the schools. Texas absolutely didn't want a conference network, but they weren't alone. ESPN and UT partnered because it was the most lucrative for both parties and at the time OU, K-State, and Iowa State all had their own tier three deals.
