Disagree at some playoff size there is decreasing returns for interest in the regular season. Is 8 that number most years?

My point is right now college football is a national audience in the regular season with the 4 team playoff. Would 8 teams make it more into a regional audience? Would 6 teams and a bye preserve the national part?

Well, people will certainly be watching all the way to the final weekend since that is when most champs will be crowned. And I don't see why there wouldn't be just as much controversy as to who should get the 2-3 at large spots. Only one spot being available increases the odds that only one non-championship game is even relevant, so I have no idea why ratings would not go up with 8 teams.

Is been mentioned,  but the best way would also reward the teams with a better record and/or schedule strength.....and that's by giving a home game to higher seeds for first round. It's practically required in order for advancing teams to be able to make the trips to neutral locations.

I think that OU is one of the two best teams in the country along with nearly every metric that I've seen but yes, I have no problem with the two best teams getting a bye. Invariably the teams who think they have a shot will schedule monsters in the non-con to get that bye. Again it happens in the FCS so it isn't some wild and crazy concept. It also isn't some insurmountable obstacle either, three of the eight teams with byes in the FCS playoffs lost last weekend.
