I'm of the belief that when the current 4 team playoff contract ends, they will expand the playoff. With that happening, conference will expand into 4 16 team leagues. Where will we land? Who knows, but we will safely have a home. Don't know if we would have necessarily 5 years ago.

From what I understand, the SEC wants UVA and UNC because they're lookin to grab as many east coast states as possible to expand its footprint.

Apparently, the Florida State and Clemson to Big 12 rumors weren't BS during the last round of realignment.

Because of this, I think if the Big 12 can hold off on inviting smaller schools and last until the GOR is up for the ACC, they could grab FSU and Clemson or just merge with the 6 best remaining ACC schools after the SEC poaches UVA and UNC.

Not likely considering Boren and OU are gettin antsy because they've been struggling the last few years. If they were winning the conference and goin to the CFP you wouldn't hear any of this from OU.

Why? We'd have a higher per-school playoff payout at 12 teams and the games would be a whole lot more fun to watch without a lot of crappy teams bloating us up to 16.

I could live with a 16 conference that has the following:

East:  West Virginia, Iowa State, Cincinnati (maybe Duke instead), Miami, Florida State, Clemson, GT, Louisville
West:  KSU, KU, OU, OSU, TT, UT, TCU, BU

Geography is very important; regional rivalries matter to college football.  This would be a pretty good result for all teams involved, including OU and UT.  We should just sit tight for now.

If you are raiding the ACC, you are doing it to gain territory for more than just tv revenue, but also recruiting territory. The Big 12 would have an incredibly similar footprint to the SEC and it would become a battle with them in every aspect of collegiate athletics. Adding more than two teams in that direction increases exposure for recruits in those states, which gets better recruits into the league, which leads to more wins for the league, and then increased revenue for the league. Its a process for long-term success instead of short-term profits.

I agree with this, as long as everyone stays put in the current Big 12. The landscape of college athletics could very well be different in 5-10 years, which could present clearer and more obvious decisions for expansion of recruiting ground, television markets, and general exposure. I just don't want to wait too long, like the Big 12 has been known to do, and be left behind again. Imagine the revenue the Big 12 would be making right now with Nebraska, Missouri, A&M and Colorado (aka Houston, St Louis, Denver markets) with the FOX/ESPN contract.

Adding eastern teams should be based upon gaining a presence in Miami (Miami, FSU), Tampa (FSU), Atlanta (Clemson, GT) to gain more tv sets for revenue, in addition to beating out the SEC for recruits in the southeastern states.

Depends which ACC teams. The Carolina schools and the northern schools, yes. The southern schools are wishing they weren't in a basketball-centric, North Carolina-run conference.

Ok, let's see:
ACC 14 teams + ND
Big 10  14 teams
SEC  14 teams
Pac 12  12 teams

If the remaining 4 conferences went to 16 teams, Pac would need 4, SEC 2, Big1 2, and ACC 1 or 2.  That tells me that there is a need for 9 teams to flesh out a 16 team conference for the remaining 4 conferences.  It will proceed in a disorderly, self-interest-first fashion.  I don't see K-State being invited to any of the other conferences--we don't have the size, market, etc. to crowd out schools in more lucrative markets.
