CoSt and Pitt are two teams that I would take right now. Memphis would be a close third

running out of options good academic school in the 7th largest market available. not sure whats so bad about it

We still have the option of not expanding at all, and that is a much better option than paying Boston College to play football and basketball games with us every year.

They're not a bad school to have in your conference but they are way too far away.

They offer absolutely nothing to a conference especially the Big 12. I can't imagine a power five school that has a worse combination of poor facilities and poor fan and community support. They are a s disaster with little sign of recovery.
what did wvu and tcu offer? think projection not just in the now. we are very limited on options

WVU at least has fans that show up to games and care about college athletics. They also have a recent history of going to big bowl games and final fours. I don't like the TCU addition, but I'd rather have them than Boston College.

If we are going to expand, I want CSU. We can just stop at 11 and hope the ACC explodes or something, but I really don't want any of the other losery schools that keep getting brought up.

Pitt isnt losery. Large built in fan base, average or above football and basketball year to year, and built in rivalry with WVU

I just posted this in another thread, but if we would just chill until major conference champs get auto bids into the playoffs, we'll have a decent chance of taking some good schools from other conferences. Until then, only dog crap is available. The big 12 just needs to slow play a little. Unfortunate, I think some ads like boren are too rough ridin' dumb to see past their noses.

Commenters on that thread suggest we have a chance of nabbing FSU. Supposedly they were interested in the BIGXII back when all the realignment stuff was going down and are still unhappy in the ACC. If we could get FSU and UCF that would be a pretty solid way to round out the conference. Only issue becomes distance, but coaches might not mind that meaning they can start getting more Florida recruits.

That would be really nice if FSU was the FSU that weve know the past two years. They will be an 8-4 team next year prob but then its dark after that. And basketball is woof. Baseball would be pretty studly though

If we can get FSU, we can get Clemson (or another worthwhile acc school).

The problem isn't ever the odd number.  You can always find the odd number.  There's always a relatively attractive #11, #13, #15, etc.  It's the even number that you have trouble with.

Cincy is kind of a slam dunk at this point.  They have a really strong basketball program that you can add to an already strong basketball conference.  They are adding lots of facility upgrades.  Nippert is getting a nice overhaul, 5/3rd is getting one or will get one.  If you need more capacity than Nippert will allow, there's always Paul Brown.

WVU needs a regional rival.  They're strong academically.  They have a very competitive football program with access to a solid recruiting base in Ohio and the PA area.  They'd be more than fine.

But what do you do with #12?  BYU as football only?  CSU?  Memphis?

I've been anti-CSU for a long time, but honestly, they may be the best all-around fit.  Decent basketball, had flashes of a strong football program over the years, and they're making efforts to improve their standing.  A $200 million stadium facelift doesn't hurt.  Really solid academics.

Memphis has the potential to kind of explode a bit.  NFL sized city with no NFL team.  Memphis basketball is always a big draw. They can recruit well in both sports.  However, the academics are really a downside from an expansion standpoint.

I think you can potentially do Cincy and Colorado State, and you won't look completely stupid.  It won't look great, but they've got time to develop into better programs.  I don't think there's much you can do with UCF at this point.  They're just too far out there, geographically.  I get all of the arguments, but I mean, man, that's just going to be a big issue.

I think if they do it, it will be Cincy and CSU or Memphis.  I'm not sure what other options there really are that this point.  I don't think there are any.

Somebody convince T Boone Clampett the only way his university doesn't die is if the Big12 expands. Then make him give Arkansas, Missouri, Colorado, and Nebraska a bunch of money down (hell, maybe even A&M, and boot WVU), then we re-neg the biggest TV contract in the history of the world and boom, what a conference! This.  And, when conference champs get automatic bids, we likely won't want anybody else in our league.

You can always decide that you want to expand.  Once you expand, however, you cannot change your mind and cut back on members.  I think it is likely that the playoff goes to 8 next time around, and when that occurs the current power 5 conference champs will get an automatic bid.  At that point, the other conferences might require us to go beyond ten teams.  But, they might not.  And, if they didn't, I assume we would be happy to stay at 10 (even though, at that point, Aggie/Mizzou/NU might be trying to get back into our league), because we would be at a huge advantage to other schools in terms of our chances of making the playoffs.  If it played out that way, no way OU or UT would want to leave.

I just wish everybody would chill.  I believe this is a very dramatic overreaction to freaking TCU and BU getting "snubbed."  But, it was just one year, and it took some pretty weird things for both of those schools to get left out.  It could easily have played out with both of them in the playoffs.  Moreover, we all know that if it were OU/UT/KSU that was sitting at 11-1, that team gets a bid.

I don't want any school that carries a city's name. No Cincy, no Pitt, no Memphis, no Houston. I also don't want any school that has a direction or the word "central" in its name. No USF, no UCF. Also, no small private schools. No Boston College, no Tulane.

In Currie's latest letter he said that K-State is projecting $29 million dollars in media/bowl/ncaa distribution next year, and that doesn't include Tier III.   So OU and Texas are going to run off and weaken themselves when one will stand to make in excess of $35 million in total media/bowl/ncaa distributions and the other will easily make over $40 million??

That would be idiotic, but this is conference realignment.

OU fans are bored with the Big 12. Despite how good TCU/BU are (and KSU/OSU recently), they look down at those programs. They want more "name" teams to come to Norman and their only option for that is to schedule big noncon games because they don't consider anyone else the league (except Texas, who never travels to Norman) to be a "name" team.

So USC and Oregon once every few years is a big home game.   What's the rest of the Pac?

Despite all the big market schools the PAC averaged 6K fewer per game than the Big 12.
