And as for "connections"...Shultz was a VP at a fracking Mississippi State...not a president and was the Dean of the Chemical Engineering School.  WTF kind of connections do you really think he has?  "hey, remember me, I was at that loser school that everyone kicks the crap out of in the SEC"

And currie was an assistant AD....I'm fracking sure Casey Scott has all kinds of connections too.

I'm just passing along what I was told.  Nothing more.

I know.  I'm just being an bad person.

My first thought was, "This is crap."

Then another guy heard it from an OSU guy like I did.  Then the premise (the SEC would like to beef up basketball) was supported by koppe22, who works with the SEC or CBS, or whatever.

I don't know.  The guy pegged the six offer thing a while back.  So it's not crazy to give it pause.

are people, other than just trying to up their post count, actually discussing gettinig a SEC invite with any seriousness. I mean, holy sh*t.  Why not discuss getting an invite from the fracking AFC West?  Or pooping solid gold bricks?

Yes, they are.  It's one of a hundred rumored equally unlikely scenarios.  Why not discuss it?  Think the SEC is above having KSU?  Nonsense.  They have money, but they're not snobby.  They're not above much of anything.

SEC =  :cheese:

We know it ain't gonna happen, because we don't get nice things, but my, oh my.

The nation's premier football conference...ripe for the picking in basketball.  Oodles of dough.  The loveliest ladies in the land.

aTm would crap a brick.  They've wanted to be in the SEC for 20 years.

And best of all, the SEC is practically an incubator for MCMW.

First of Yosh . . . good catch I miss read.

MadCatter . . . I doubt it, those schools will be  :pbj: at the thought of having an auto BCS bid, in addition, none of the schools is big enough on the balance sheet to force anyone's hand.    Come on, if you're BYU and you are backed by one of the wealthiest churches in the world, do you let Kansas boss you around??   Hell no.   BYU, like Baylor is one of those athletic departments that always sends that "perfect" little financial report to the Department of Education every year.   Golly, our revenues equaled our expenses . . . we don't make any profit at all (pull empty pockets out to show world).    But you know, I know,  we all know . . . that there's an a$$ load of money behind the scenes.

SEC . . . come on, all of us know it's a pipe dream . . . geez . . .     Albeit Zacker has a good point.   You know, on one side of thinking, SEC/ACC country is crowded and there's only so many TV's to go around . . . they may look West just for size sake.   Doubtful, but you never know.

Nebraska to Big Ten ... on Friday?
June, 9, 2010
Jun 9
12:09
AM ET
By David Ubben
A Big 12 school's executive told the Omaha World-Herald on Tuesday that he expects Nebraska to leave the Big 12 for the Big Ten as early as Friday, ahead of the Big 12's deadline reported previously.

Lee Barfknecht writes:

Direct confirmation from Nebraska of a conference change for the Huskers wasn't immediately available. Sources at two other Big 12 schools told The World-Herald that their athletic directors have instructed them to be ready by week's end for a briefing on probable Big 12 changes.

But athletic director Tom Osborne spoke to a Nebraska radio station on Tuesday evening and his comments are consistent with the anonymous report.

"I think before too long, and I don't know exactly what that time frame is, we'll be able to put this thing to bed because I'm getting tired of it, you're probably getting tired of it, the fans are getting tired of it."

As for the report's validity, it would mean a dynamic shift from the Big Ten's announced time frame. When the Big Ten first announced its intentions to expand in December, it laid out a 12-to-18 month time frame, and held firm to it despite reports to the contrary through its spring meetings last month.

But on Sunday, commissioner Jim Delany admitted that the Pac-10's recent efforts may have accelerated that time table.

"The timeline could be affected," he said.

If tonight's report is correct, then clearly, that acceleration indicates Delany respected the reported ultimatum given to Nebraska and Missouri to pledge a commitment to the Big 12, making his move six months before the window for his timeline opened.

But, if that's the case, then it would make sense for an invitation to apply to also be sent to Missouri. Nebraska's official silence makes sense and assures nothing is official yet, but it's probably safe to assume the athletic facilities attached to Memorial Stadium will be swarming with reporters by the time the work day arrives.

If there's anyone who can get us into the SEC, it's Lew Perkins dragging us in along with KU.

We need to start a petition to the Chancellor over at KU to make sure Lew keeps his job -- at least through the conference realignment.

Currie won't hurt if we're talking SEC.

I'm not tardish and think he's Moses or anything, but he and Schulz do have some contacts.  So folks might at least pick up the phone and talk to them.

Great write up on your site, btw.

Schulz seems like a nerd, and nobody wants to be the one who invites the nerd to the party (SEC), Currie is like the cool dude's lil brother, who suddenly got older and is getting all the chicks now and EVERYBODY wants to know his secret

Schultz is a fracking dork.  The guy was freaking asking aloud "where the student athletes are in all of this" at the damn Big XII meetings last week.

Great question for a term paper, but not when you're going to bat for a University with cut throat SOBs like Gary Forsee and Deloss Dodds across the table, that would rather gut you and your family than talk NCAA idealism.

These guys are in way over their heads and I have no confidence whatsoever in our leadership being able to pull us out of this.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

We'd be the Iowa State of the SEC.  It's hard enough being the Kansas State of the big 12.  Why are some wishing to morph into ISU?

So I know this d00d from Nebraska and he has "connections".  I know, I know, everyone knows d00ds from Nebraska,( SD :pbj: ), but this guy has "connections",  anywho, he basically said Nebraska is gone.  They hate TX way more than we all think.  They hate us because we vote with TX, so basically they hate everyone in the conference now.  They hate that the B12 Championship game is going to be played in Dallas for 5 years in a row.  They are pissed.  You guys probably already know most of that, but after 50 bajillion pages I thought I would offer up some not very useful information too.   :pbj:

May as well use this now since we won't need it anymore   :lynchmob:

I don't think it was ever Nebraska wanting or not wanting to go to the Big 10 that had anything to do with it.  It has always been the Big 10 officially offering them.  It has always been known that if they offered they would go.

Certainly we have a very strong history. Our basketball history is tremendous. We had a little hiatus there but we’re right back in the mix. The three highest rated basketball games on ESPN last year all included Kansas State. That’s significant. The television people will tell you the Power Cat has more pop than you might think. You might think that it doesn’t have pop nationally, but it does. That’s a testament to LHC Bill Snyder and the program he built here in the 90s. We’re confident that can return and we can rebound.

exactly.  NU leaving isn't because of the money they are making in the Big 12, it's because of the money they could make in the Big 10 coupled with them (NU) feeling like they (UT) run the league and they (NU) have no control.  Which is funny because wait until you get in a league with fracking Ohio St. and Michigan.  I'm sure what NU thinks is that they can get back their NU/OU rivalry game (and they might be able to, depends on if OU wants to remain bitter) in the OOC.

basically, EVERYTHING is going to be in nebraska's hands. If they stay, then the big 12 stays together. They leave, and the 6 teams go to the pac10. That simple.
