100%

I know for fact that OU/OSU already want to go.  Texas won't stay if OU leaves, and Tech/A&M won't stay if Texas leaves.  Colorado will leave because they're Colorado and they think they're on the west coast anyway.

do you think it's...

1)ou wants to go and tx won't stay if ou leaves

or

2)tx wants to go and ou won't stay if tx leaves

do we know for sure that we'll get it? how many members does it take to dissolve the league? add the fact that they are all smarter and better looking than we are and i doubt we get anything. if we do, i say big lazy river connecting aggieville to campus to bsfs and ood. :twocents:

Probably a little of both.  They understand how important their rivalry is for their fanbase and that it's a huge $$$ deal, so they're going to stay together.

If Nubb leaves, then the last team out needs to turn the lights off.

At this point, I'm going to be very dissapointed if we get stuck in the boring Big 12.  We're so close to being able to get out!

The only teams that will be left will be KSU, KU, ISU, Baylor, and Mizzou (snicker snicker).  Pretty sure that there has to be 6 teams left to keep the conference intact.

I say we buy a crapload of paint and write "LOL MIDMAJOR" on all of the KU highway signs in the state.   :fatty:

Having word leak out the Nubb would join the Big Ten is actually counterproductive to their effort to end up in it.

I thought 9, but I don't know if the 9 was for a 3/4's vote.  It would behoove KSU, KU, ISU, and BU/CU to cobble together a "Big 12" in order to collect (and keep those entering members away from that check.

I believe the minimum number that needs to remain in the league to keep it the Big XII legally is 6.

awesome.  everyone leaves without paying. so not only do we (and KU, BU/CU,  ISU) get raped, but they won't even leave a $100 on the table.

Per this guy (whoever the hell he is), it takes 9 votes to dissolve the conference and avoid the $10 million payout. But the NCAA also requires that a conference have six teams that have played together at least 5 years. But we could theoretically get around that by bribing the best 6 MWC teams to come join the new Big 12, thus retaining our BCS status, bowl tie-ins and distributing the payouts from the departing members.

This basically sounds like our best case scenario: a pretty big windfall and a place in an even weaker BCS conference we may be competitive in. So, obviously we'll shazbot! it up.

I'm not understanding how Nebraska leaving would make the south want to bolt. Wouldn't they want NU out of here?

Whether we like it or not, Texas/OU/and Nubb are the big dogs of this conference.  If Nubb leaves, then that leaves Texas and OU as the only two big name schools, and that means less $$$ for them.  If they go to the Pac 10, then they'll be in a conference with a lot of big name schools, which means more $$$.

Anything and everything about this year's realignment is about $$$.

It's not about the entire south. It's about Texas, Texas A&M, and OU. These schools, along with NU vote to block revenue sharing. There is nobody the Big 12 can get that would vote against revenue sharing. With NU gone, everyone else will get more money while these three schools get less.

This should be the avenue we take.  Basically exclude the incoming teams from any "buy in" that normally occurs and just tell them they can't have our money.  They should jump at this.

I think it's time to pull the race card.  It may be our last shot.

Maybe we can guilt them all into staying? :dunno:

Seems like an easy problem to fix.  EMAW can start voting aganist revenue sharing if continuing to take less Big 12 (w/Texas) money is better than the alternative.

Ideas to raise money in a new conference:

  • Ads on the field
  • Constant plugs - "The Dillons offense was great today.  It really helped out the Sonic defensive stand.  We really got lucky with the KIOGA special teams unit returned that kick for a TD in the final seconds.
  • Telethons
  • A charity single staring the most cost effective musicians and celebrities we can find.  Maybe Huggs can loan us Lachey, and I think Huey Lewis probably needs cash.

Other ideas?

We would need to ask Texas, and they're allegedly not our friends anymore.

This is assuming KU is still in our conference, of course.
